This role entails overseeing the procurement, scheduling, and shipment of goods crucial for the construction project's success. The position encompasses managing purchasing, production scheduling, order coordination, inventory control, contract negotiations with vendors, and supplier evaluation.
Key Responsibilities:
Specific tasks for the Purchasing Manager include but are not limited to the following:
- Initiate or process field purchase requisitions and collaborate with project management for approval.
- Research vendor/supplier pricing, delivery dates, etc., through written bids or verbal quotes and prepare bid summaries/evaluations.
- Negotiate and finalize purchase orders (change orders) with selected vendors, ensuring proper documentation.
- Manage equipment rental agreements, document terms, and complete necessary insurance forms.
- Negotiate and establish long-term or "blanket" purchase orders for regularly required materials, overseeing contract administration.
- Expedite and coordinate material deliveries, resolve invoice issues with accounting and vendors, address quality requirements with Engineering, and manage material identification with Material Control.
- Evaluate and issue subcontracts in alignment with Contracts Department policies.
- Supervise procurement personnel and authorize field purchase orders when necessary.
- Undertake additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
Education/Experience:
- Four-year (technical or business) degree or an equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of construction material procurement experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of procurement/vendor inspection techniques and procedures, along with a working understanding of accounting, financial management, and business contract law.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.
