Job Title : Night Shift Route Supervisor
Summary of Position : Our client is seeking a dedicated Night Shift Route Supervisor responsible for overseeing nightly service delivery to customers.
This role ensures safe, timely, and cost-effective service in alignment with company practices and regulations. The Night Shift Route Supervisor applies principles of Positive Leadership in supervising drivers and upholds the core values of our client.
Essential Job Functions :
- Supervise drivers and oversee nightly operations, ensuring pre and post-trip inspections are conducted. Communicate key service points, safety, and equipment issues to drivers while reinforcing team values.
- Establish and maintain a clean, safe work environment, ensuring compliance with company policies.
- Share Decision Driving techniques, ensure employee adherence to safety guidelines, reinforce daily safe work practices, and assist in delivering weekly / monthly safety meetings.
- Assist in routing new service starts, obtaining work orders, and scheduling service intervals. Review productivity reports daily.
- Follow routes to ensure a distinguishable level of service to customers. Respond to dispatch calls or messages, clarify unique service requirements, and address customer issues, complaints, and inquiries promptly.
- Perform route observations to ensure safety procedures are followed, interceptors are in good condition, and routes are clean.
Complete and discuss route observation reports with drivers.
- Monitor driver pre-trip inspections, address findings, ensure mechanical issues are resolved, and review truck repair needs with management.
- Oversee driver time and attendance, completed route sheets, disposal tickets, and compliance with DOT hours of service.
- Complete accident and injury reports, respond to vehicle accident investigations, and manage workers' compensation and property damage claims.
- Train and provide orientation for new employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations, monitor employee attendance, complete disciplinary actions, and apply positive leadership principles.
- Ensure trucks are cleaned daily.
- Drive and assist on routes to cover shortages and support drivers behind schedule as needed.
Other Job Responsibilities :
- Attend and participate in company-sponsored training courses.
- Stay updated on current technology relevant to the role.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Work Environment :
- Normal setting for this job is outside, supervising in the field.
- This is a night shift position with some weekends required.
- CDL Required : Preferred
Qualifications :
High School diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years of experience in transportation, management, logistics, or solid / liquid waste industry;
- Knowledge of Smith System and / or Decision Driving principles and techniques.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft applications.
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, ANSI, and related federal, state, and local regulations.
- Valid class A or B commercial driver's license (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire) with a driving record meeting company standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and resolve problems.
- Flexibility to work weekends and address operational issues by as needed.
- Positive attitude towards staff and customers.
- Knowledge of first aid techniques is helpful.
