JOB DESCRIPTION :
Our company is a leading supplier for specialty woods and lumber related building materials. This
position will oversee and direct all yard operations and personnel to ensure customer and vendor
needs are met timely and safely.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Supervision of all yard employees, drivers and dispatch.
- Collaborates with GM to determine staffing needs.
- Works with HR to hire / discipline / terminate employees.
- Provides on the job training, mentoring and oversight to all yard personnel and
drivers.
Conducts employee reviews, approves PTO requests and handles any
training / disciplinary actions with yard staff in collaboration with GM / HR.
Responsible for scheduling & staffing for efficient operations. Continually monitors &
manages yard labor hours. Reviews & approves time cards for yard personnel.
- Ensuring DOT Compliance and equipment maintenance.
- Ensures that all equipment is being properly used and regularly maintained.
- Ensures DOT compliance. Schedules / performs maintenance as needed according to
applicable DOT regulations. Monitors hours of service, licenses, etc.
- Supervision of all yard operations.
- Coordinates and confirms delivery schedules and / or product needs / changes / etc. with
both the sales team and customer as needed.
Directs delivery schedules and ensuring that they are on time with the correct material
and quantities delivered. Looks for ways to coordinate multiple deliveries on one truck
to maximize labor hours and truck wear and tear.
- Oversees the loading & unloading of all vendor delivery trucks & confirms accuracy.
- Ensures that outside areas are kept neat, clean and organized.
- Ensures all customers entering the yard are serviced timely, properly and safely.
- Inventory Management.
- Responsible for maintaining the inventory in the yard by conducting counts, and
ensuring product is properly put away.
- Ensuring safety of all personnel, customers and vendors.
- Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices of yard staff in order to
prevent injuries and damage.
- Looks for ways to improve safety procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE DESIRED
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Possession of strong organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of a yard and product activities on location including component or
materials weights and methods of loading is a must (building materials, lumber, metal yards,
etc)
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous driving / dispatching experience and knowledge of DOT regulations is preferred.
- ALternatively, shipping & receiving experience is also preferred.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION :
- Class D driver’s license. CDL (preferred) or the ability to obtain one
- Forklift certification
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT :
- Must be able to lift / carry 75lbs occasionally
- All mobility motions are required. Standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crawling,
squatting and climbing
Work is performed primarily in an outdoor environment, subject to variations in temperature
and weather, equipment noise and dust.
