GPD is currently seeking an Architectural Designer specializing in K-12 Education projects in the Houston, TX market.
The ideal candidate is:
  • A licensed Architect with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in architectural design with a focus on K-12 Education design.
  • Excellent communicator and presenter with the ability to lead school administration and community engagement activities.
  • Experienced in education master planning services working with the district.
  • A leader of educational planning and visioning with a proven ability to articulate design concepts.
  • Experienced at developing site and building concepts working with other architects, interior designers, engineers, and illustrators to communicate the design intent to the school district and community.
  • Experienced in developing and leading pre-bond activities.
  • Experienced in programming, planning, and design that meets the needs of the district and community.
  • Excellent with working directly with clients and building relationships.
  • An effective leader and mentor that fosters a collaborative approach to design.
  • Knowledgeable of various building systems and construction methods and delivery models.
  • Knowledgeable of school funding methods and standards.
  • Passionate about understanding trends in teaching environments and methods.
  • Comfortable and capable of presenting and participating in business development activities and participating in the graphic presentation of materials.
  • Able to apply principles of design to other project types completed in the Houston office.
  • Ability to lead or participate in charettes with other internal architects.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Leads pre-bond efforts with the Director of Education in Texas including master planning, site planning and conceptual design, and community engagement, and committee meetings.
  • Leads programming and schematic design efforts working directly with the Education Project Managers.
  • Leads collaborative design work sessions with the internal team of managers, architects, and interior designers.
  • Meets with clients to present the design concept and listens and records feedback to bring back to the design team.
  • Ensures design meets the client’s expectations for program and operations while feasible within budget and schedule.
  • Attends regular meetings with the clients.
  • Attends regular internal meetings with the design team.
  • Participates in design opportunities across other industry segments.
  • Leads community engagement meetings for the district.
  • Help elevate our presentation materials and delivery in pursuit of projects as well as in relaying the concept to the district, boards, and community.
  • Communicates with the Director of Education regularly.
  • Mentors and directs design staff in the completion of the projects.
  • Participates in internal after-action meetings.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team on strategic company-wide creative initiatives and direction. Help establish goals for the practice.
  • Attends industry educational and networking events and brings design trends to the team.
  • Coordinate with the Ohio office design lead and project managers in the Ohio Education team to consistently deliver high-quality Education projects in both the Ohio and Texas markets.
  • Help assess and develop staff as forward thinking designers and excellent communicators.
