The IT Productivity Engineering Manager provides strategic vision and guidance to help streamline and integrated software environment using the Atlassian and ServiceNow toolsets. This role is important in driving our current IT shared services tool investments by identifying strategic investment, integration, automation, and process improvement opportunities. You will be the strategic product owner of the ServiceNow and Atlassian tool suites and is empowered to develop the strategic work to improve Grainger's IT process and reporting. Reporting to this role will be the IT productivity engineering team and you will manage the ServiceNow and Atlassian (JIRA & Confluence) tool suites. Within this role, you will partner with process stakeholders across IT to influence the streamlining of internal processes, guide integration and automation opportunities, and develop KPIs to measure/track positive impact of improvement.
- Develop a motivated engineering team that is focused on providing clear value to Grainger
- Act as product owner for the ServiceNow and Atlassian tool suites
- Develop strategy to improve a complex and silo-ed environment of multiple tools and complicated processes. Have an eye for automation and integration opportunities
- Partner with Tech Lead, IT leadership, and process stakeholders to understand evolving landscape and needs of business
- Create outcomes with a focused strategy aimed at improving our IT processes and reporting through Atlassian and Service Now toolsets
- Be a driving voice in challenging status quo, always with an aim to improve how work gets done within IT
- Champion continuous improvement effort to improve IT engineering processes to guide better visibility/metrics on engineering throughput across IT department
- Provide strategic leadership and clear,, vision to engineering team
- Assess engineering skills and invest in upskilling/coaching of team
- Mentor engineers on self-improvement to maintain expertise in technical areas
- (Prior management experience, in engineering
- Familiarity with Atlassian and ServiceNow platforms, with an eye for automation and integration opportunities
- Understanding of IT shared services platform with a lens toward data integration, continuous improvement, and improved reporting
- Experience implementing engineering best practices to increase quality and throughput
- Experience in IT process improvement
- Experience with business case development and experience in stakeholder management
- Bachelor's degree or 7 years in engineering management/process improvement
- /influence style, customer-service oriented demeanor,, reporting by metrics and indicators, and communications are all essential to this role
- We ask that you are comfortable developing metrics, analysis, and quantitative/qualitative evidence to create outcomes/prove value
- Understanding of software engineering and Agile principles
- Coaching skills for teams and individuals. Experience navigating difficult conversations to achieve necessary strategic outcome for business
- Plan, and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals
- Mindset to improve the technical knowledge of engineering directs
