Alburgh School District is seeking a Principal for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond. We are looking for an experienced leader who will continue to evolve a culture scaffolded by the importance of positive relationships, high expectations for all learners, who recognizes the importance of excellent communication and distributive leadership. The Alburgh school is a PreK-8 school that serves approximately 175 students. Alburgh is located in the Champlain Islands region of Vermont and is part of the greater Burlington area.

We operate three prek-6 campuses consisting of 225 students total. Our middle and high school students have choice and receive a voucher to attend an independent or public middle or high school which best meets the students needs. We are an easy commute from Burlington and are located about 1.5 hours from Montreal or under 4 hours from Boston. Our region is known for breathtaking views and access to Lake Champlain, boating, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing and other outdoor opportunities.

The Burlington and Saint Albans regions offer amenities such as fine dining, shopping, theatre, a vibrant music and art scene with seasonally relevant festivals, as well as access to higher education opportunities available through UVM and Champlain College. The successful candidate will be a facilitator of learning with a strong understanding of the learning core, accountability systems, using student data to guide decision making in an MTSS environment, and will have current knowledge about fiscal and school governance issues impacting educational quality in Vermont.

All nonprofessional school staff4. Support service personnel hired by the Supervisory Union while such personnel are functioning in the school.JOB GOALS: To serve as the educational leader of the school, directing, guiding and coordinating the total educational program and the management of the facility.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. The principal shall submit goals for the school year on an annual basis or as required by the Superintendent.2. Supervises the schools educational program.3.

Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the schools staff and students.4. Is responsible for the development, revision and evaluation of the curriculum in accordance with Board policy.5. Assists in the recruiting, screening and hiring of the schools professional staff, paraprofessional and non-certified personnel within parameters established by the Board.6. On an annual basis and/or as directed otherwise, formally evaluates all professional and support staff personnel hired by the local school board and participates in the evaluation of support services personnel hired by the Supervisory Union.7.

Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant, child nutrition programs and transportation.8. Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for school functions in the absence of the principal.9. Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.10. Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students.11.

Directs the orientation of teachers. Reviews policies and practices.12. Participates in the development and implementation of in-service programs for teachers.13. Supervises the preparation of all school reports for the district office.14.

Makes recommendations to the Board and Superintendent concerning the schools instructional program and administration.15. Assumes responsibility for the placement of students and supervises the maintenance of accurate attendance and health records.16. Assists in the preparation and management of the school budget.17. Acts as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.18.

Makes arrangements for regularly scheduled conferences between parents and teachers.19. Conducts meetings of the staff for the proper functioning of the school.20. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.21. Attends School Board meetings and district administrative meetings.22.

Develops, implements program and instructs courses approved by the board.23. Accepts responsibility of a District role defined as a need by the Superintendent of Schools.24. Leads school in development and implementation of a Local Action Plan.25. Adheres to state guidelines regarding Vermont Standards and Assessment practice.26.

Other, as determined by the Superintendent of Schools and/or the Alburgh Board of School Directors.
