POSITION: Weed Control Crew Member
DEPARTMENT: Weed Control
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Weed Control Foreman
SUMMARY OF WORK: Controls weeds through application of herbicides and biological tools with primary emphasis on public roadsides. Some private land applications on rangelands are also conducted.
JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
Nature of Work: This position operates ground application equipment for applying herbicides to noxious weed infested lands. This includes pick-up trucks, and trucks up to 18,000 lb. GVW in addition to 4 wheeler vehicles with herbicide application equipment attached. Four wheeler vehicles are pulled on a trailer by the truck mounted ground application vehicles.
Personal Contacts: Minimal public contact; daily consultation with weed crew foreman. Often works with the foreman, and another crew member.
Supervision Received: Contact with Weed Control Forman on a daily basis.
Essential Functions: Position requires ability to drive trucks; visually inspect areas for noxious weeds; operate and maintain hand spray equipment; operate and maintain vehicles and mounted herbicide application equipment; walk over uneven ground; climb steep slopes; carry 40 lbs; read maps; maintain accurate neat records.
AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:
Ø Accurately mixes herbicide solutions and applies them at prescribed rates to identified areas.
Ø Applies herbicides to roadsides, right-of-ways, and occasionally private lands to control noxious weeds.
Ø Identifies new weed infestations in Granite County.
Ø Produces accurate records on herbicides used, areas of application and weather conditions during application.
Ø Assists in maintenance of application vehicles and equipment
Ø Performs other related duties as required.
JOB REQUIRMENTS:
Knowledge: This position requires knowledge of noxious weed identification and plant life cycles; knowledge of herbicide safety and application methods; and, knowledge of mechanics for maintenance of herbicide application equipment.
Skills: This position requires skills in on and off-road driving, maintaining and operating herbicide application equipment.
Abilities: This position requires the ability to: lift and carry 40 pounds; visually inspect areas for noxious weeds; read maps; accurately mix herbicides; communicate effectively; follow instructions; establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.
This position requires a valid Montana Drivers License.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:
Ø High school diploma
Ø 2 years employment experience with herbicide application
JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Evaluation of this position is based upon performance of the preceding requirements and duties. Performance criteria include, but are not limited to:
