POSITION: Director of Facilities and Ground Support Equipment (GSE)

Position Overview

Our Part 135 airline, serving the unique and challenging terrain of Alaska, is seeking an experienced and resilient Director of Facilities and Ground Support Equipment (GSE). This role is crucial for ensuring the optimal functioning and maintenance of our facilities and GSE, located in rural and remote areas of Alaska, often subjected to harsh winter weather conditions. The successful candidate will oversee a dedicated team of facility professionals and vehicle mechanics, ensuring that all operational bases, hangars, and equipment are maintained to the highest standards, supporting the airline's operational efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilities and GSE Management: Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of all airline facilities, vehicles, and ground support equipment. Ensure all activities comply with FAA regulations, OSHA standards, and environmental laws.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for the expansion, renovation, and maintenance of facilities and equipment, considering the unique challenges of operating in Alaska's rural and remote locations.
  • Team Leadership: Build, lead, motivate, and manage a team of facility professionals and equipment mechanics, ensuring high levels of performance, safety, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Budget Management: Manage the budget for facility and equipment operations and maintenance, including cost control, forecasting, and allocation of resources for repairs, upgrades, and acquisitions.
  • Emergency Response Planning: Develop and oversee emergency response plans for facilities and GSE, ensuring readiness and resilience against Alaska's severe weather conditions and other emergencies.
  • Vendor and Contract Management: Negotiate and manage contracts with vendors and service providers, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness of services and equipment.
  • Safety and Compliance: Foster a culture of safety and compliance, conducting regular inspections and audits of facilities and equipment, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facility Management, Aviation Management, or related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in facilities and/or ground support equipment management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of FAA regulations, OSHA standards, and environmental laws related to aviation facilities and equipment.
  • Proven experience managing facilities in rural and remote locations, with an understanding of the challenges posed by harsh winter weather.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team of professionals.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to develop strategic plans, manage budgets, and oversee large-scale projects.
  • Experience in emergency response planning and execution.

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Alaska and requires travel to various rural and remote locations.
  • Must be prepared to work in challenging weather conditions and be on call for emergencies.
