What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custom Project Manager position at graypants?
Custom Project Manager
Graypants is a small design firm specializing in the design/manufacturing of lighting products, and large-scale custom lighting installations. We are currently seeking a new team member to serve as our Custom Project Manager. Main responsibilities include managing custom projects from initial client meetings, to design, to collecting final installation photos.
In addition to custom projects, there would also be some production management tasks related to standard products, where crossover with custom makes sense. We are looking for a candidate who is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and can communicate clearly with vendors and clients. Organizational skills, time management, the ability to prioritize effectively and pivot quickly from one task to another are critical to success in this role. Past experience in lighting is not required, however, the ideal candidate has a few years of experience in the Architecture field.
Graypants is dedicated to maintaining a diverse and inclusive work environment. Applicants of all national origins, race, disability, gender expression and sexual orientation are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Main point of contact for custom project planning for sales staff and clients
- Conceptualizing designs that best uses materials and construction methods to fulfill clients design intent
- Ordering materials, establishing lead time
- Designing structural elements, such as canopies; working with vendors to produce
- Manage production assembly in the studio with production assistants, graphic designer and shipping manager
- Give remote support to on-site installers
- Tracking budgets for projects
- Opportunities for managing production of some smaller products where responsibilities crossover with custom project management
You might be a good fit for our Custom Project Manager if you are:
- Relentlessly organized and detail-oriented
_ Knowledgeable on metal construction materials and methods as well as building construction_
- Experienced with Rhino3D
- An effective communicator both verbally and in writing. You will be working with lighting designers, electrical contractors and architects to plan ways for our light installations to not only fulfill their design intent, but also have a solid plan for installation.
- Fiercely proactive, independent, and self-directed. You are comfortable working in an ambiguous environment, and you don’t need someone telling you what to do before it gets done.
- Able to understand established procedures we have built at graypants, while also finding ways to question them and improve upon them based on your own experience.
- Not afraid to roll up your sleeves and extend your work beyond the basic duties of your job. We’re a small team, and things don’t always fall neatly within defined lines of responsibility. We all pitch in to get stuff done when needed. “Not my job” is not in the graypants vocabulary
OK, enough of that. Now for the fun stuff about working at graypants:
_ Out of the office and into the studio: _We work in a vintage warehouse in Sodo. The studio serves as our showroom/production space/office, with our lighting products adorning the beams and exposed brick walls throughout. Ditch your stale, sterile office building, and come work in a beautiful, unique environment brimming with creative energy.
_ Four-legged companions welcome: _Graypants is dog-friendly!
_ Small team; big impact_: You are not a small fish lost in a vast ocean at graypants. Your work and your contributions make a real and visible difference, because there’s not a small army of other employees doing the exact same tasks. We work hard to get the job done, but we always keep things fun, light, and humorous. You’ll have opportunities to make real impacts while being part of a group that makes coming to work not feel like actual work.
