What the Job Looks Like

The Market Manager oversees operations, management and marketing of the Easton Farmers’ Market and West Ward Market while supporting the marketing and programming of the Easton Public Market and Highmark Farmstand. The Manager works to strengthen the greater Easton economy through initiatives that support food access, food entrepreneurship and tourism, and health and wellness, and cultivates the relationship between the markets and their connection to the local food system.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Manage all vendor applications and scheduling.
  • Coordinate updates and maintenance of market websites.
  • Support e-newsletters, digital and social content for the markets.
  • Communicate with sponsors and activate all sponsorships benefits.
  • Develop and facilitate relationships and partnership with community organizations with a focus on diversity, health, wellness, and food.
  • Schedule and attend advisory council meetings, prepare meeting agenda with input from council chairperson, handle all email correspondence, and facilitate bylaw updates.

Planning / Production / Project Management

  • Oversee all market logistics.
  • Coordinate City services including Dept. of Health, Public Works, and Police.
  • Handle all aspects of on-site logistics including set-up/take-down, market information tents, equipment management and maintenance, transportation, utilities, restroom facilities, first aid, park maintenance, and parking lot usage agreement and maintenance.
  • Create market maps and designate vendor placement.
  • Coordinate design, printing, and installation of all signage.
  • Oversee market volunteer program and conduct annual trainings.
  • Maintain partnerships with other GEDP programs such as the Easton Main Street Initiative and West Ward Community Initiative
  • Engage with Easton Garden Works in co-marketing/education of compost program, EBT education and WWM programming.
  • Support PA BaconFest with market related programming and merchandise sales.
  • Manage vendors for Easton Farmers’ Market and West Ward Market, including processing vendor applications and admissions, conduct annual vendor meetings, handle communications, provide business development support.
  • Address and escalate by-law and health code violations and enforce safety compliance.
  • Coordinate all merchandise design, ordering, marketing, and sales.
  • Oversee EBT processing, distribution, reimbursement, education, and programming.
  • Plan, organize, and implement special events and activities, including children’s programming.
  • Administer the community tent programs for EFM and WWM.
  • Coordinate SNAP incentive program and submit for financial reimbursements with Food Trust.
  • Attend annual Farmers’ Market Managers meeting through Penn State Extension and Buy Fresh Buy Local Greater Lehigh Valley.
  • Coordinate attendance counts and surveys.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a events, marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in community development and event management
  • Must be familiar with local food systems and food insecurity.
  • Knowledge of grower certifications and food safety certifications.
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to lead and mentor staff.
  • Proficient in computer skills using Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of communication and management software programs such as WordPress, Constant Contact, Google docs/sheets, Basecamp, etc.
  • Comfortable with public speaking.
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and take initiative to prioritize, meet deadlines, and accomplish tasks.
  • Remain calm under pressure and possess a positive attitude.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, either verbally and/or in writing. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; ability to see and distinguish color.

The employee must be able to endure extreme weather, lift up to 50lbs. and be physically active (standing and walking) for long periods.

Pay: $48,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
