What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Team Leader - Overnight Camp Specialty position at Greater Philadelphia YMCA?
POSITION PURPOSE
Under the general supervision of the Executive Leader, the Program Leader, manages the day to day operations of Camp Speers and serves in a leadership capacity for all Camp Speers programming.
ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Associates Degree (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) in Recreation, Child/Adolescent Development, Outdoor Education/Leadership, Elementary or Secondary Education, or a related field and 1-3 years of experience working in a Camp or Recreational Environment.
Desire and ability to work with people of all ages.
Thorough understanding and appreciation of child and adolescent development and ability to design and implement programs, policies and protocols to support that development.
Ability to communicate and work with individuals or groups participating in environmental education and proven necessary instruction to campers, parents and staff.
Ability to operate motor vehicles and meet the safe driving requirements of the association.
Ability to motivate staff and customers.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
High energy and creativity with a strong grasp of the YMCA mission.
Additional certifications (WFR, WFA, LGT, WSI, Ropes, etc.) a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word to impart oral information and to convey detailed, spoken instructions to staff, members, children, and volunteers accurately, quickly, and loudly. Ability to perceive the nature of sounds by ear; ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds; ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling. Ability to move about on foot quickly; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where they actually are and clearly see at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Exposure to high levels of noise and various environmental conditions.
Acquire and maintain the following certifications:
CPR/AED/O2/First Aid obtained through the American Red Cross (valid 2 years)
Requisite OSHA online trainings (valid 1 year unless otherwise noted)
Mandated Reporter Training (valid 5 years)
Additional training and development specific to your role as reference in onboarding packet.
