JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this classification is to schedule, supervise and perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on all vehicles, heavy construction equipment, small engine equipment owned and operated by Greenville Water.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work; maintains standards; coordinates activities and allocates personnel; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; reviews the work for completeness and accuracy; selects new employees; answers questions; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.
- Ensures subordinates' compliance with all applicable safety rules and regulations.
- Develops and implements a program for scheduled preventive maintenance on all vehicles, heavy construction equipment and small engine equipment owned by Greenville Water.
- Inspects vehicles and equipment to determine scope and type of repair work required.
- Locates and orders required parts.
- Supervises and performs maintenance and repair work on trucks, automobiles, heavy construction equipment, motor boats, mowers, generators, various motors, pumps, power tools, etc., as needed.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems on vehicles and equipment.
- Rebuilds motors, engines and equipment as needed.
- Performs welding and fabrication work as needed.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of tools, parts and equipment; ensures proper maintenance of assigned equipment and tools.
- Prepares and maintains records of all vehicle and equipment maintenance work.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other department managers, employees, subordinates, sales and service representatives and the general public.
- Maintains and tracks warranty and performance information on all vehicles and equipment managed by Fleet Services.
- Keeps abreast of the latest technology and information relative to optimizing the performance and application of the vehicles and equipment managed by Fleet Services.
- Performs custodial maintenance of shop as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by six (6) years of experience in mechanic maintenance and repair work in an industrial environment, is required. Furthermore, five (5) years of management experience is required. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver's License. An understanding of Commercial Driver's (CDL) License is desired. Ability to develop and maintain spreadsheets and information managed in a database is highly desired.
