What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Biologist to independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the NCI/CCR. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.
- Process viable human cells from blood, bone marrow, and other sources.
- Understanding of procedures needed for staining human cells with antibodies and other reagents.
- Use flow cytometer to analyze stained human cells.
- Ability to interpret real time results to ensure sample quality and reliability of collected data.
- Willing to work as part of team to ensure efficient day to day operation of the laboratory; includes effective communication with staff regarding protocols, assay problems, equipment issues, reagent inventory, and suggestions to improve laboratory function.
- Ensure compliance with universal precautions.
- Ability to perform data entry and retrieval using multiple IT systems to organize and securely store data, records, forms, and labels necessary for data integrity and patient confidentiality.
- Perform trouble shooting during material handling and assay performance. Document actions required to resolve problem and initiate corrective action as needed.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Perform required daily QC procedures on equipment as outlined in SOPs.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laboratory SOP manuals to stay current with procedural guidelines.
- Basic understanding of how flow cytometry data is analyzed. (Additional Training will be provided using various software platforms).
- Perform FACS and molecular analysis on human cells and do cell sorts; design FACS panels; prepare cells and interpret results; organize purchase of FACS reagents and maintain inventory.
- Perform cell separation by lineage and by lineage subsets; process non-cellular human products with analysis, storage and record keeping.
- Serve as the point person for dissemination of information pertaining to the assigned product or duty to coworkers, physicians, patient care team and other health care professionals as directed.
- Organize cell population, serum, urine, saliva, tissues, and other human products and associated records forms and labels necessary for data integrity.
- Interpret experimental techniques and procedures; prepare reports on laboratory results.
- Prepare written evaluation of results including detected deficiencies defects, and reports on research protocols or human product processing, analysis, and storage.
- Attend facility staff meetings, if unable to attend review lab practices or meeting minutes.
- Ensure compliance with universal precautions.

What You Will Need:
- Master's degree in related field or Bachelor's degree in related field plus three years of specialized experience
- At least two years of experience
What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Experience working with flow cytometry and human cells
- Training in universal precautions
- Knowledge of proper laboratory techniques, disposal methods and safety procedures
- Proficiency in the use of computers and computer programs
- Ability to work independently on cell processing assignments
- Knowledge of cell processing and cultures and assays
- An ability to analyze and evaluate laboratory findings and learn new techniques
- Knowledge working in a cell handling, culture, and assay environment to include FACS and molecular characterization
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
- MS Office Suite
