Pesticide & Fertility Technician

Job Overview

Pesticide and Fertility applicator for turf surfaces in all aspects of the maintenance and care of the racing turf ground areas for both Gulfstream Park and Palm Meadows Training Center

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ability to run and operate all turf equipment such as reel and rotary mowers, aerators, tractors, skid steers, forklifts, backhoes and skip loaders
• Assist in all applications of Pesticides and Fertilizers on both Gulfstream Park and Palm Meadows Turf surfaces
• Perform any number of turf related jobs
• Skilled in all aspects of Pesticide applications
• Calibration of specialized equipment for spray and granular applications, both dry and liquid Fertilizers
• Help with irrigation and tamping divots after each race
• Ability to work a varied schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays during the racing season
• Perform a variety of physically demanding labor on a routine basis and in compliance with all safety standar

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Requires a high school diploma. An advanced degree is preferred
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Demonstrates expertise in racetrack maintenance, equipment standards, and environmental factors and applies the correct concepts, practices, and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency.
• Previous Pesticide and Fertility work in Golf or Sports Turf industry preferred
• License to apply restricted use of pesticides is preferred
• Strong computer skills to include effective working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
• Strong written and oral communication skills required.
• Must be tolerant to outside work in extreme weather conditions, chemicals, heat, and humidity, which may often contain dust and debris.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risks associated with travel between buildings and back and forth to other areas as may be required due to business demands. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, including second-hand environmental smoke. The employee may be exposed to the risks associated in attempting to resolve issues with extremely irate or difficult guests or staff members. The noise level in the work environment varies from light to moderate.

Licenses, Certifications, Registration: Requires a PMW license. Requires a Florida driver’s license.
