Gurwin Healthcare System is a full continuum of care providing extraordinary care and caring to the people that we serve. Set on a 34-acre campus in Commack, NY, the Gurwin Healthcare System includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, providing short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, memory care, respiratory and ventilator care, palliative and hospice care, social and medical adult day programs, and on-site dialysis and infusion therapy. Sharing the campus is Gurwin’s Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish ~ Fay J. Lindner Residences) and our independent living community (Fountaingate Gardens). Our Certified Home Health Agency and Gurwin Licensed Home Care Services Agency have an office in Farmingdale, NY.
Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, provides assistance to residents. The Resident Care Assistant serves as ancillary in providing non-clinical assistance to the resident. You will be scheduled to work either 3:00pm-11:00pm 5 days per week including every other Saturday and Sunday or 11:00pm-7:00am 5 days per week including every other Saturday and Sunday.
EDUCATION:
- High School education preferred but not mandatory
- Previously related experience preferred but not required
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Resident Care Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary team.
The Resident Care Assistant will assists with the following services per their person centered plan of care:
Assist with oral hygiene set-up
Hair and Nail care
Distributes drinking water and nourishment
Assists with resident’s meals, including distribution and collection of trays and assisting residents with feeding as indicated
Assists with transportation of residents on and off the unit
As assigned by the primary or charge nurse, the Resident Care Assistant is responsible for the following related duties:
Maintains non-patient areas (i.e. tub room, utility room, etc) in a neat and orderly condition as assigned.
Maintains resident’s living area, consisting of bed, bedside table, overhead table, wheelchairs/Geri-chairs, clothing drawers, closets and bathroom storage area in a neat and orderly manner.
Performs errand services for the nursing unit as needed
Observes and reports information related to changes in the patient’s condition
Assist nursing staff in ambulation of resident
Provides patient comfort utilizing available resources.
Answers resident call lights.
Maintains patient safety. Immediately reports any suspicion/allegation of resident abuse, neglect, exploitation and misappropriation of property to their charge nurse or supervisor.
Attends nursing unit conferences and other staff development programs.
Maintains confidentiality of resident and resident information.
Consistently demonstrates a professional attitude and manner. Contributes to positive team functioning and supporting one another.
Maintains attendance and observes working hours, starting time, lunch period, breaks, quitting time, etc.
Supports the orientation of new staff to the service and unit by sharing his or her knowledge and contributing to a supportive learning environment.
Performs related and miscellaneous duties as directed. In an emergency situation, may be expected to perform unrelated duties.
Demonstrates interest in the specialized needs of the geriatric population.
Ability to establish interpersonal relations and effective communication with patients, families, resident representatives and other staff.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and written.
Ability to respond flexibly to a dynamic clinical environment.
