Description
Haag, a leader in forensic engineering and consulting since 1924, is seeking a Forensic Meteorologist in Oklahoma to investigate the impact of weather events on the built environment including wind damage from hurricanes, tornadoes, or other windstorms, hail impact lightning strikes, snow loads on roofs, temperature and precipitation extremes, etc.
Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs and obtains weather data using radar, surface observations, National Weather Service watches, warnings, forecasts, discussions, etc.
- Utilizes historical weather data from NOAA and NCEI to reconstruct weather conditions for a specific location and time.
- Reconstructs a timeline of key weather events and creates a meteorological chronology, along with a timeline of National Weather Service Watches, Warnings, Advisories and Statements to present an accurate weather scenario at the time of the incident.
- May be called to present Expert Witness testimony.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM) certification is required.
- Strong background in interpreting and analyzing meteorological data, including weather radar data.
- Familiarity with NOAA/National Weather Service (NWS) storm warning and verification processes.
- Technical proficiency using geographic information systems (GIS) software tools and interpretation/manipulation of geospatial data.
- Knowledge and experience with Hail, Wind, and Tornado Verification Technology.
- Technical proficiency with MS Office.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are necessary to be successful in this role.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is a must.
- Ability to provide the utmost in customer service to internal customers and external clients.
- Ability to work with a cross-functional team of experts.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or any legal restrictions.
- Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the jobs. This may include working on roofs or in confined spaces.
- Must be able to conduct field inspections, often in inclement weather and under extreme conditions.
- Travel may be required.
