Reports to: Board of Directors
Purpose of Position: The Executive Director is to follow the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Texarkana, Inc., policies, and directives set by the affiliate board of directors, and provide overall executive leadership for the affiliate. The primary focus of the Executive Director is the day-to-day operation and direction of the organization and ensuring adequate resources are available for said operation. Additional responsibilities include supervision and mentoring of paid staff, maintaining, and enhancing the infrastructure of the affiliate, serving as the primary communication link among directors, committees, and volunteers, networking with community services, and providing the necessary follow-up to ensure that the whole organization runs smoothly and achieves the mission of the affiliate.
Required: Demonstrated ability to raise required funds, and the ability to effectively supervise and mentor staff. Demonstrated organizational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and successful experience working with volunteers. Nonprofit management experience, including budgeting and financial oversight.
Highly desirable: Familiarity with the mission and work of Habitat for Humanity. Knowledge of the construction process. Successful experience building a network of donors. Successful experience creating effective networks with community service and governmental agencies.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: General Administration:
Assume administrative responsibility for the operations of the affiliate and manage the local affiliate office. Facilitate the building process by meeting with the Board and committee members as necessary. Communicate with Habitat for Humanity International offices as appropriate. Attend conferences or workshops on behalf of the affiliate. Interact with Habitat partner families as directed by the Board or Executive Board. Hire, train, and manage paid staff for positions approved by the board of directors. Contact and negotiate with vendors.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Nonprofit / Organizational Development:
Work collaboratively with the Board by attending all Board meetings, providing monthly board meeting agendas in consultation with the President and Executive Committee, and orienting and training new Board members. Provide monthly oral or written executive director’s reports and a comprehensive written annual report to the Board. Assist the Board with strategic and long-term planning and setting of goals. Work collaboratively with the standing and ad hoc committees by maintaining a strong liaison with each committee chairperson, attending committee meetings, and orienting and training new standing committee members as requested by the Board or Executive Committee. Serve as the communication link between the Board, the committees, and the volunteers; provide necessary follow-through.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Community and Public Relations:
Encourage visibility of Habitat for Humanity of Texarkana and uphold the brand in the communities it serves. Be the spokesperson for HFH-TXK to interested religious, business, civic, and volunteer organizations and foundations or other charitable giving organizations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Finance and Resource Development:
Provide general oversight of budget and affiliate financial matters; assist the Executive Committee in annual budget development and advise the Board and Executive Committee of budget issues and future needs. Authorize expenditures within the guidelines set by the Board. Take responsibility for the Development Committee in planning and implementing a fundraising strategy. Ensure the Fundraising Committee seeks out and develops financial partnerships with churches, businesses, civic groups, and individuals. In collaboration with the Site Selection Committee, seek out and procure suitable building sites. Develop financial models for the selection of home size and site locations. Knowledge and experience with QuickBooks Online would be a plus.
WORK SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION:
This is a 40-hour per week salaried position that requires some evening and weekend work. Benefits include two weeks of paid vacation per year and holidays.
