Description

The Sr. Benefits Specialist is responsible for facilitating the administration of all health and welfare benefits, voluntary benefit products, and the employee savings 401(k) plan. This position works heavily with our payroll system and is an integral part of not only the HR team but of the payroll administration team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Onboarding all new employees and ensuring the understanding of all the benefits programs and accuracy of the new employee enrollment. 
  • Manages the annual enrollment process and communications.
  • Maintains cooperative relationships with Brokers and benefit carriers.
  • Reconciles monthly carrier invoices and submits them for payment.
  • Routinely checks the carrier status for enrollment, annual enrollment, and life changes throughout the calendar year.
  • Facilitates the processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability, and FMLA. Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Distributes all benefits-related information and annual compliance notifications on time. 
  • Responds to benefits questions from covered participants. 
  • Consults on employee policies that impact benefits.
  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from participants regarding enrollments, plan changes, and contribution amounts. Facilitates the annual plan audit and has a good understanding of ERISA regulations and requirements.
  • Administers the tuition reimbursement program.
  • Actively involved in the annual budgeting process, including recommendations on voluntary benefits.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Leads the Total Worker Health efforts for the organization.

Internal Relationships

The Sr. Benefits Specialist works closely with Payroll and Accounting. Strong relationships at all levels of the organization are needed to build trust and confidence in the information and service provided. 

 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Presence in the office is an important part of this role. Excellent attendance and reliability are key. This is a Monday through Friday full-time position with some flexibility in scheduled work hours. Remote work will be considered once the required knowledge and relationship building has been demonstrated.

 
Required Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in HR or related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
  • Two years experience in HR and/or benefits administration.
  • Prior customer service experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field of study, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification credential.

 Additional Eligibility Qualifications

 
Demonstrated experience with MS Office products, particularly Excel.

 
The hiring range for this position is $67,000.00 - $81,000.00 annually.
