POSITION: MS Counselor/ K-8 Dean of Students 24/25 SY

Harrisburg operates on a 4-day school week M-TH. Work days and hours are flexible for this position, so the work times and days can be personalized. 

 

COMPENSATION: Placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with education, experience, and work schedule. District policy GCBA will be implemented. 

 

BENEFITS: Prorated employer-paid insurance CAP to assist with health, dental, and vision premiums, employer-paid Basic Life, and AD&D policies. Paid personal days, sick leave, and paid holidays, with a generous PERS retirement contribution.

 

Job Overview:

 

The School Counselor/Dean of Students is a vital member of the school leadership team responsible for providing comprehensive counseling services and promoting a positive and inclusive school culture. This role involves supporting students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development, as well as fostering a safe and supportive learning environment conducive to student success.

 

Responsibilities: The following is not a comprehensive list of responsibilities.

 

*Counseling and Advising:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students on academic, social, emotional, and career-related issues.
  • Conduct assessments and develop personalized intervention plans to support students' growth and well-being.
  • Assist students in setting academic and personal goals, exploring post-secondary education options, and developing career plans.

 

*Student Support and Advocacy:

  • Serve as a trusted advocate and resource for students, addressing their concerns, needs, and challenges.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support students' academic progress, behavior management, and social-emotional development.
  • Advocate for the rights and interests of students, ensuring equitable access to educational opportunities and support services.

 

*Crisis Intervention and Management:

  • Provide immediate support and intervention for students experiencing crises, trauma, or mental health emergencies.
  • Coordinate crisis response efforts, including risk assessments, safety planning, and referrals to external resources as needed.
  • Implement school-wide initiatives to promote mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and crisis preparedness.

 

*Student Conduct and Discipline: (lower level behaviors - tier 1 and some tier 2)

  • Establish and enforce school-wide behavior expectations, disciplinary policies, and procedures in collaboration with school administration.
  • Investigate and address student misconduct, conflicts, and disciplinary issues in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Work with students, families, and staff to develop restorative approaches to conflict resolution and behavior management.

 

Student Leadership and Engagement:

  • Facilitate leadership development programs, student government activities, and extracurricular opportunities to promote student involvement and empowerment.
  • Organize and oversee school-wide events, assemblies, and initiatives that celebrate diversity, promote inclusivity, and build a sense of community.
  • Foster positive relationships and communication between students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.

JOB SUMMARY:

Implement, supervise, and maintain a high-quality learning environment for student learning. Develop, plan, and implement curriculum, lesson plans, and educational programs for student audiences within areas of expertise. Advise, test, and teach student audiences in a variety of academic subjects.
