St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital.
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Physician, the ED Tech is responsible for providing direct care to patients in the Emergency Department.
- Performs urgent and emergent care procedures including EKGs, wound care, vital sign monitoring, IV initiation and codes.
- Monitors patient condition and performs data collection. Communicates findings and patient condition to primary Registered Nurse (RN).
- Maintains accurate documentation in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Assists with the mobilization, ambulation and transport of patients.
- Takes responsibility for stocking of supplies, phlebotomy, EKG's, transportation, completing vital signs, placement of bedside devices, and specified point of care testing within the scope of practice.
- Follows safe guidelines and limitations for receiving, transporting, and stocking of intravenous (IV) fluids as related to specified essential job duties.
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 6 months to 1 year acute care experience preferred
- Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
AND 1 or more of the following:
- Certified Basic Emergency Medical Tech (EMT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Completion of one semester Med/Surg rotation in rotation in a Registered Nurse (RN) Preparation Program (ASN/BSN)
