Job Summary Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute is currently seeking a highly motivated individuals to join the Division of Therapeutics Research and Infectious Disease Epidemiology (TIDE) within Harvard Medical School’s Department of Population Medicine (www.populationmedicine.org) as a Research Scientist II. TIDE is the home of several large, complex, multi-institutional research initiatives based within health systems using electronic health data that support major national public health activities. Our mission is to improve health care delivery and population health through research and education, in partnership with health plans, delivery systems, and public health agencies. The Research Scientist II plays a crucial role in supporting key initiatives and projects in TIDE’s portfolio. Working under the general direction of principal investigators (PIs), the Research Scientist II is responsible for participating in and leading TIDE studies using health data such as administrative claims data and electronic health records. The Research Scientist II is expected to support the Sentinel System (https://www.sentinelinitiative.org/), a program sponsored by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for monitoring the safety of FDA-regulated medical products as well as lead or participate in projects with academic or industry collaborators. Key Responsibilities/Duties – what you will be doing Lead or participate in design and execution of studies of medical product safety and surveillance, working closely with internal and external PIs and co-investigators. Lead or participate in all aspects of epidemiological studies, including the development of protocols, surveillance plans, and analysis plans primarily using electronic health data. Write interim and final reports, including peer-reviewed publications. Lead or participate in development of new methods for analyzing data for multi-site studies. Work, on a day-to-day basis, with the project leads, other investigators, programmers and/or analysts to implement protocols or surveillance plans of retrospective and prospective surveillance studies. Coordinate and/or lead meetings of project teams including external collaborators. Supervises/manages research/project staff. Other duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications – what you need to perform the job EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE: Doctoral degree in pharmacoepidemiology, epidemiology, or health services research. EXPERIENCE: Three to nine years relevant research and/or professional experience in a health care research, industry, consulting, government, or academic environment. SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Prior experience working with and analyzing large databases (administrative claims healthcare data preferred). Experience leading studies using advanced pharmacoepidemiologic methods, such as propensity score-based approaches, or complex multi-site studies is strongly preferred. Demonstrated excellence in his/her area of focus and responsibility. Record of scholarship, including participation in professional and academic meetings. Evidence of independence in the scientific and/or administrative leadership of projects and excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of study design, research methodology and statistical analysis. Experience managing staff is also preferred.
