SHIFT: Weekends OnlySCHEDULE: Full-time
HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital is a 267-bed top-performing quality hospital with over 200 of the most highly respected and qualified physicians in the area. It is the only acute care hospital in the Tri-County area that offers open heart surgery, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center accredited by the Joint Commission and an Accredited Chest Pain Center. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitates department flow by making assignments and enhances communication with all members of the healthcare team
- Makes patient care assignments according to staff capabilities and patient needs and makes alterations in nursing assignments as necessary.
- Responsible for the closing of the department in the evening to ensure smooth throughput for department opening the following day
- Focuses on increasing patient satisfaction by enhancing throughput, hourly rounds, utilizing tactics in the ICARE model and holding subordinates accountable to the same standard
- Manages staff time effectively by assigning meal breaks and unit tasks
- Establishes communication and rapport with physicians.
- Resolves problems on a shift-to-shift basis with appropriate documentation and follow-up
- Communicates all unusual situations and problems up the chain of communication
- Initiates incidents reports and Code Red audit forms as needed during their shift
- Assists in orientation of new employees
- Documents and reports appropriate and inappropriate employee behaviors using appropriate chain of command
- Assists in the education and enforcement of facility policies and Core Measure Initiatives
- Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical skills and the ability to support others to achieve the delivery of quality care
- Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers
- Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patient’s rights
- Assists in the protection of PHI and complies with HIPPA regulations
- Plans and implements age appropriate patient care and teaching based on a total assessment
- Evaluates and documents patient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiological and psychosocial status; takes appropriate action based on assessment of the patient
- Regular, punctual and dependable attendance
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
- Associates Degree or Diploma in Nursing required
- BSN or MSN is preferred
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
- Current FL RN license required or appropriate compact licensure. If compact license held, active FL RN license required within 90 days of hire.
- BCLS - AHA Healthcare Provider certification required at time of hire
- ACLS – required within 90 days of hire
- PALS – required within 90 days of hire
- CAPA (Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse) preferred
- AAANC (American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nurses) preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience required
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Clinical expertise
- Exemplary leadership skills
- Tactful communication skills and the ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs
- Supervision, delegation, conflict management and team building skills.
- Flexible and resourceful and able to make decisions quickly
- Reads and writes Basic English with the basic skills necessary to transcribe physician’s orders
- Basic computer skills
