Job Summary and Qualifications
The Phlebotomy Apprentice, under general supervision of the laboratory manager and/or shift supervisor, is responsible for performing laboratory duties and support functions efficiently and appropriately, following the policies and procedures established by the hospital and laboratory department to ensure the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.
What You Will Do In This Role:
- Assists in the restraint or position of patients for blood collection procedures.
- Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes.
- Skilled in collecting other specimens such as clean catch urine, nasal/throat swabs, drug screens, therapeutic phlebotomies, etc.
- May be asked to learn and perform appropriate point-of-care testing.
- Performs related clerical duties, including answering telephones, relaying messages, mailing or faxing patient reports, unpacking supplies, and any other duties within the scope of training and education required by the laboratory supervisor.
- Assists with orientation and in-service training of employees and students.
- Maintains all annual competencies associated with job-related duties.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information.
What qualifications you will need:
- High School Graduate / GED
This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
