GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Manage compound lab operations following USP 795 and PCAB guidelines. Make and process compound and commercial prescriptions. Assist the dispensing pharmacist wherever needed to maintain all functions of the pharmacy lab operation within the bounds of pharmacy technician regulations. Learn and occasionally work the front-end of the Pharmacy.

COMPOUNDING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management of compounding lab
  • Comply with all quality assurance/control/improvement (QA/QC/QI) and accreditation programs (PCAB)
  • Assist with medication formulations and compound:
  • Oral solutions, troches, triturates, lollipops, lip balms, capsules, creams, ointments, lotions, rectal suppositories, ear drops, and animal treats
  • Maintain/manage inventory of bulk chemicals, supplies, and compounded items.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain lab work area and compounding equipment in a sanitary fashion including but not limited to:
  • Equipment such as the: ointment mill, tube sealer, electronic mortar and pestle, hot plates, electric and analytical balance, encapsulator, sieves, and glassware
  • Maintain documentation as required for all prescriptions in an organized fashion
  • Assist in training new employees
  • Learn and work all work areas of the compounding laboratory and pharmacy.
  • Assist the pharmacist in accessing, reviewing, and processing patient records/orders in the PK operating system
  • Triage incoming orders
  • Assist other pharmacy technicians and/or ancillary staff as necessary.
  • Participate in customer service activities
  • Conduct oneself in professional manner and participate in quality improvement processes.
  • Complete any other tasks requested by the pharmacist
  • Help build business

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Wait on customers
  • Answer telephone
  • Ring sales on register
  • Count down register, fill in register check out form
  • Take deposit to the bank
  • Order store supplies, drug inventory and vitamins
  • Enter patient and prescription information into computer
  • Process prescriptions and bill insurance
  • Prepare and label prescriptions for pharmacist approval
  • Organize/file/maintenance of any documents/ prescriptions
  • Conduct follow up calls to patients
  • Clean and maintain lab and pharmacy
  • Make deliveries and shop for store supplies
  • Various other duties as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma or graduate equivalent degree

· Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB) and registration (TSBP)

· Compounding technician certification/formal training preferred

· In-depth knowledge of USP 795 regulations and PCAB guidelines

· PK or RxDispense software

· Work every other Saturday

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

· 4 years general pharmacy experience with customer service/register training

· 2 years full-time Non-sterile compounding lab experience

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

· Ability to work as a team member

· Good written and verbal communication skills

· Knowledge of pharmacy practices and procedures

· Strong mathematical computation skills

· Knowledge of record-keeping techniques

· Attention to detail

· Experience with PCAB standards and accreditation process

· Compound training courses

Wage dependent upon experience**

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Experience:

  • F/T Non-sterile Compounding: 2 years (Preferred)
