Primary Responsibilities
HDR is currently seeking a Civil Engineer - Railroad to join our Freight Railroad Team in Omaha, Nebraska. The primary duties of the Civil Engineer - Railroad are to:
- Serve in a technical role under a Project Manager.
- Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for railroad track and civil projects for private and public-sector clients. Civil and railroad design tasks may include project layout, geometrics, site, drainage, and utilities, calculating quantities, reviewing construction submittals, and coordination with other disciplines.
- Work independently as a project engineer on small- to mid-sized projects and assist senior engineers on larger projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Participate in proposal development and other marketing activities.
- Direct engineers-in-training, designers, and technicians.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate with other technical and clerical professionals on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Assist in the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects, including the planning and environmental clearance process of a project.
- Perform quality control reviews and design checks of railroad projects.
- May require periodic travel for client visits, site visits, field assessments and construction inspections, as needed.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineering (PE) - Civil license.
- 4 years of experience in transportation-related design (e.g., roadway, site/civil, railroads or transit, or other linear corridor design). Experience specifically within the railroad engineering industry is not necessary.
- Interest in the freight railroad industry.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Office products.
- Experience using MicroStation and InRoads, OpenRoads, OpenRail, or other BIM Software (AutoCAD, Civil3D, Geopak, etc.).
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience within railroad engineering industry.
- Local project experience is a plus.
- Construction inspection or construction management experience is a plus.
