What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Nurse Manager - SICU position at Health First?
The Nurse Manager will be fully engaged in providing Quality / No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by demonstrating leadership as a member of the Nursing Management Staff. The nurse manager is delegated the authority and autonomy for assessing all planning and directing of unit functions to include evaluating patient care on a 24-hour basis on a specific unit.
Primary Accountabilities
- Maintains current knowledge and skill in clinical practice and management.
- Assumes 24-hour accountability for unit activities, including responsibility for 24-hour staffing plan.
- Serves as role model for all unit staff by setting an example of high standards in conduct, attitude, performance and patient/family relations.
- Responsible for compliance with unit quality assurance and patient safety goals, guidelines of accrediting and regulatory agencies, unit standards of care and practice, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintains an environment conducive to optimum safety for patients, visitors and staff.
- Conducts and documents associate education, performance appraisals, and disciplinary action for individuals as indicated.
- Responsible for positive patient satisfaction scores for the unit.
- Ensures compliance with budget expectations and corporate financial goals.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED\:
Education\: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing o BSN required - conditional and time limited waiver for BSN requirement may apply to internal associates who complete their BSN within 3 years of transition to new role (grand-father provision)
Licensure\: Current Florida RN license or endorsement
Certification\: o Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain o National certification in relevant specialty or in Nurse Administration preferred
Work Experience\: o Minimum of 2 years acute care clinical experience preferred o Previous nursing management experience preferred o Meets all qualifications required in RN job description
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities\: o Must have knowledge of TJC (The Joint Commission), Florida Nurse Practice Act and other applicable agency regulations o Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language o Sound organizational skills to include time management and problem solving o Highly developed communication skills, verbal and non-verbal o Maintains professional competencies by attending continuing education programs and participates in professional organizations o Basic computer skills utilizing the windows environment o Must be able to speak and understand written and verbal instructions in the English language
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\: Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform clinical tasks Good physical condition and without assistance must be able to lift, push, or move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to pass color blind testing to perform those POC tests requiring color changes Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for 90% of assigned shift
MENTAL DEMANDS\: Ability to display and promote elements of good service. Must have ability to listen well and analyze needs from various ages and levels of education. Must have ability to access, interpret data and educate members of the healthcare team, patients, and significant others of various ages. COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT/SKILLS CHECKLIST\: Must meet the charge RN/supervisor competency assessment/skills checklist requirements in accordance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act within 3 months of employment and annually.
