HealthNet Aeromedical Services, Inc. is a not-for-profit shared service of Cabell Huntington Hospital, Charleston Area Medical Center, and WVU Medicine. Position Overview:
The Continuous Improvement Specialist (CIS) provides clinical and operational reviews of HealthNet Aeromedical Services, HealthTeam Critical Care Transport, and contracted organization patient encounters. And, in collaboration with the Medical Director, VP for Clinical Operations and Director of Education, makes recommendations for remediation and/or improvements in operations and clinical standards of practice. The CIS, at the request of the Continuous Improvement Manager, provides education outreach opportunities to the HealthNet Aeromedical Services customer base. The CIS remains a tactile flight or ground team member, meeting all standards set forth in the appropriate position description.
Environmental and Mechanical Considerations:
While serving in an office or classroom setting or Patient Simulation Laboratory, the CIS generally conducts his/her activities in a controlled office environment. Limited exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards may exist in this environment. While serving in a clinical or observational capacity at a base location, the CIS delivers critical care services under the stresses of flight or ground transport, with frequent exposure to blood/body fluids, in sometimes hazardous conditions, near moving mechanical parts and within high noise environments. Training and resources are available to mitigate risk as appropriate, but the responsibility to utilize those devices falls to the individual.
Minimum Required Educational Level:
Completion of an associate degree or certificate program in paramedic science, nursing or related field of study from an accredited institution
Preferred Educational Level:
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in paramedic science, nursing or related field of study from an accredited institution
Preferred Previous Experience:
Previous experience with clinical or quality improvement in a nursing or EMS environment, and policy development.
Required Certifications and/or Registrations:

Current unrestricted WVOEMS Mobile Critical Care Paramedic or Nurse credentials (MCCP/MCCN credentialing can be waived in lieu of documentation of equivalent critical care experience/education received in other states)
Post-Hire Certifications and/or Registrations:
As appropriate, flight team members who hold the title of CIS shall obtain certification as a Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) or Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C) within 12 months of hire.
As appropriate, ground team members who hold the title of CIS shall obtain certification as a Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN) or Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C) within 12 months of hire.

Position Specific Accountabilities:

Ensures that clinical care documentation complies with standards set forth by HealthNet Aeromedical Services’ expectations and those established by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS) and governmental agencies as appropriate.

Interfaces with the Continuous Improvement Manager, Medical Director and the Director of Education in the development and implementation of simulation scenarios for initial, recurrent and remedial education experiences as indicated

Collaborates with the Continuous Improvement Manager, Medical Director, VP for Clinical Operations and Director of Education to make recommendations for clinical remediation and/or improvements in clinical standards of practice

Interfaces with Corporate Communications Manager and Business Development Coordinators in the development and implementation of clinical and educational services .

Notified the Continuous Improvement Manager of customer concerns regarding clinical matters

Promptly processes and reports findings related to medical team performance

Utilizing standardized content, completes utilization review and determination of appropriateness for all transports

Assists with research including data collection and report writing

In partnership with leaders and other organizations as required, develops patient care guidelines, policies and procedures

Liaisons with partner organizations on issues related to continuous improvement
