Job Summary:
The Resource Nurse is an experienced, professional RN who provides support for the acute care triage staff. The Resource Nurse collaborates with the team leader, working together to support daily workflow and encourages cohesiveness with all the units.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Acts as a liaison to coordinate activities and needs between patients, physicians and other service areas. Encourages a team approach.
- Prioritizes patient care activities as necessary.
- Observes staff as they fulfill their role; gives direct, honest, open and appropriate feedback at the time and in support of evaluations.
- Communicates to manager/division director any specific patient care events, customer concerns, staff issues and/or organizational concerns within 24 hours, taking appropriate action as necessary at the time of occurrence.
- Works collaboratively with Nurse Managers to provide staff with mandatory education and competency training.
- Intervenes and directs activities in crisis situations for the organization until the on-call Executive Team member responds. Accountable for knowing disaster plan.
- Supports nursing department through participation in service area/organizational meetings, clinical committees and professional practice committees.
- Maintains knowledge in Quality Improvement and Safety initiatives. Role models, instructs and encourages others to use improvement process steps. Monitors staff compliance, providing immediate feedback as needed.
- Acts as a mentor to support the development of critical thinking in clinical scenarios.
- Demonstrates professionalism with a consistently supportive, positive demeanor in workplace interactions. Assists in holding others accountable through real time feedback when indicated.
- Assists with chart reviews and clarification of documentation to support patient care, required elements and clinical charges.
- Obtains medications and supplies according to policy and procedure for the organization during un-staffed hours (Surgery and Material Services).
- Applies the nursing process to assess pertinent data utilizing patient, family/designated caregivers and interdisciplinary input. Develops, implements and evaluates patient progress toward designated outcomes relative to the plan of care.
- Completes timely and comprehensive patient documentation, in accordance with service area standards.
- Demonstrates a commitment to professional development through completion of mandatory education.
- Demonstrates punctuality and consistent attendance record.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education, Training or Degree Required:
- Graduate of a nursing program with a minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience.
- Current Minnesota RN license (will be primary source verified by HR)
License/Registration/Certification Required: (will be primary source verified by HR)
- CPR (within 30 days of start date)
- ACLS (within 6 months of start date)
- PALS, PEARS or ENPC-if not certified at time of hire, within 1 year of start date
- NRP-if not certified at time of hire, within 1 year of start date
- TNCC
- Successful certification completion upon or within one year of hire.
- Ongoing renewal not required and is optional.
Experience and Skills:
- One year of acute care experience, preferred
- Demonstrates leadership skills, required
