Job Title: Phlebotomy Technician
Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico
Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Phlebotomy Technician to join our team at the Occupational Medicine Clinic for the Newport News Nuclear (N3B) BWXT Los Alamos project. This position is responsible for performing phlebotomy procedures, managing specimen collection, and providing support to healthcare providers to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Phlebotomy Technician Duties:
- Perform blood collection procedures using standard techniques for venipuncture and capillary puncture.
- Ensure the correct labeling, handling, and transportation of all specimens following established protocols.
- Maintain phlebotomy equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition and compliant with health and safety standards.
- Verify patient identities and maintain strict confidentiality of patient records and test results.
- Provide clear instructions to patients during the blood collection process to ensure comfort and compliance with procedural standards.
Additional Duties (Occupational Health Related):
- Support diagnostic imaging procedures when needed, including assisting with patient positioning and safety measures.
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, taking histories, and recording vital signs.
- Manage patient records and perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and handling patient communications.
- Provide patients with instructions on medications and general health education under the supervision of healthcare providers.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., CPT, RPT).
- Previous experience in a medical office setting, with a strong understanding of phlebotomy procedures and patient care.
- Knowledge of specimen handling and blood collection techniques.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Commitment to providing high-quality, empathetic care to patients.
