The Houston Chronicle is seeking a columnist to explore and explain Houston and the state of Texas to readers. We are looking for a dynamic writer to illuminate what it means to be a Texan. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of the city and a love of all things Texas. The columnist must be a strong writer with a voice that oozes Houston and Texas and who won’t be content to simply riff off news events or to frame subject in partisan terms. Instead, you will steep you work in original reporting to bolster arguments and promote solutions and won’t shy away from saying the unpopular but right thing. Houston is a complex city, filled with diverse communities, economies, political interests and The Houston Chronicle is dedicated to informing and engaging its audience on call sides.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write insightful columns for houstonchronicle.com and the Houston Chronicle regularly.
- Provide quick takes for houstonchronicle.com when warranted, based on news and issues of the day
- Be active in social media, both in terms of sharing perspective, but also engaging audience
- Establish a voice while breaking news, reporting features and taking on ambitious big-picture topics, outpacing competitors.
- Represent the company on television, radio and other venues in role as a thought leader.
Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3-5 years of experience as a columnist and or reporter
- Strong language and writing skills
- Command of social media landscape
- Desire to be a leading voice in the region
