Founded in 1875, our agency has grown over the years to address most of the challenges children, adults, families, and communities face across the lifespan, including substance use, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence/sexual assault, human trafficking, homelessness, juvenile justice, mental health, neighborhood distress, and poverty. Today, we offer 42 programs from 20 locations in east central Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Coalition Descriptions
The Drug Endangered Children’s (DEC) Team is a newly formed group of individuals who are working together using a multi-disciplinary approach to provide resources and assistance to our communities. This coalition strives to ensure the safety of all children and families by addressing the needs surrounding Drug Endangered Children. The coalition’s vision is that all children have a right in our communities to grow and develop safely in a drug-free environment.
Prevention Means Progress (PMP) is a dynamic coalition comprised of over 50 different partners (individuals, organizations, and educational groups) in both Iowa and Nebraska. Our mission is to empower people to take action against substance abuse. We value everyone’s contribution to prevention, treatment, and recovery. We are committed to providing education, legislative advocacy, and awareness to help communities stay ahead of substance abuse.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF WORK
You could be perfect for this opportunity if you have experience working in the community to organize and unite different groups of people around a common goal. The Community Coalition Coordinator will work directly with both the DEC Team and the PMP Coalition, as well as work in conjunction with the PMP Director and Heartland Family Service to implement and carry out pieces of the Drug Free Communities Grant work plan. This person will be directly responsible for the DEC Coalition, including organizing meetings, creating agendas, bringing in new members, and communication about coalition happenings. This person will also be involved in outreach efforts to Schools, Law Enforcement Agencies, Medical Personnel, community members, and Legislators, building interest for participation and direct involvement in PMP and DEC and the coalition’s activities and strategies. Decision-making skills, communication, outside the box thinking, and problem-solving capabilities are a must have for this position.
Compensation range: between $41,300 and $52,248 per year (based on years of experience).
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekend and evening events

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Network with other businesses, organizations, and individuals to help promote the Coalitions and increase membership
- Seek out and attend identified and non-identified community networking opportunities
- Organize, plan, and facilitate monthly coalition meetings and strategic planning sessions for coalitions
- Develop and coordinate a system for data analysis of coalition activities
- Develop and foster community relationships to provide substance abuse prevention services to all sectors of the community
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed to communicate information to PMP Project Director, Funder, and community members
- Strong problem-solving skills necessary
- Ability to work independently and assess a situation independently and take action to address it
- Complete monthly reporting
- Apply SAMHSA Prevention Strategies and the Strategic Prevention Framework in various populations in communities served by the grant
- Work and communicate well with youth, parents, and professionals
- Comply with grant reporting and submission of paperwork as required by Funder under the supervision of the PMP Director
- Plan and implement activities as required by grant work plan
- Dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance
- Strives to make connections between the agency and the larger community whenever possible
- Creates, maintains, and shares an appropriate and dynamic self-care plan.
- Cooperate and collaborate with program area staff, volunteers, and other agency staff
- Perform other program related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS Degree and 2 years’ experience working with coalitions or within the community
- Basic knowledge of substance use prevention and/or treatment
- Experience networking in the community
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of non-profits, public health, and marketing
- Project management experience
- Experience with web management
- Media and website experience
- Must be available on evenings and weekends as needed for coalition event scheduling
- Experience with sustainability and capacity building
- Experience in prevention, public health, and/or health policy a plus
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and time management capabilities
- Valid driver’s license / acceptable driving record
