What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Program Aide position at Heartland?
Position Summary
The Head Program Aide assists with clerical tasks, recreational programming, camp activities, program aide assignments, and meal service. The Program Aide will reside on-site at The Salvation Army Northern Division Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, MN for the duration of their temporary employment during summer camp.
Essential Functions (approximate time spent)
- Support and actively participate in all assigned camp programs and activities (20%).
- Ensure program equipment is in working order and available for use (20%).
- Observe campers and program areas and report health and safety concerns immediately (15%).
- Assist kitchen staff serving meals and cleaning (15%).
- Develop and maintain positive rapport with campers and colleagues (10%).
- Support campers in following rules and expectations, providing guidance and positive reinforcement (10%).
- Assist with the coordination of Program Aide assignments, in conjunction with leadership (5%).
- Attend spiritual activities (5%).
Education and Experience
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Experience working with children, preferred.
- Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be willing to participate in religious activities.
- Must pass vetting process (e.g., background checks, reference checks) per policy.

Working Conditions
- Must be able to attend staff orientation week.
- Room and Board provided in addition to biweekly stipend. Required to live on-site at Northwoods camp during the summer.
- Position is seasonal, approximately mid-June through July, includes nights and weekends.
- Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, and lift 25 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to fully participate in activities and events (outdoors and indoors).
- Camp environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English and work in person.
