The Engineering Manager provides technical services within a market which serve either as complementary solutions for the needs of strategic and target customers, or to advance strategically aligned new offering innovation. These services include: Engineering, Design, Surveys, Feasibility and Consulting studies..
The Manager will manage multiple technical disciplines on programs and projects throughout the western United States.
This position is accountable for advancing customer relations and positioning H&M for construction services through the group’s successful performance of services within cost and schedule commitments. The Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Engineering performance. Responsibilities include lead, or be a key participant in, the capture process for large and complex opportunities, meeting or exceeding the clients’ expectations and profitable completion of the work.
Additionally, this position provides direct support to other functional project teams in the planning and execution of the job including resolving issues, managing resources, project coordination, interfacing with client representatives regarding the projects progress, oversight of project accounting, training, mentoring and coaching.
Responsibilities:
- Consistent with defined Market Strategies and Regional Goals, define and/or execute supporting business plans, objectives and requirements. Implement plans and provide periodic progress reporting.
- Manage design engineering and technical staff
- Prepare and monitor department budget and expenses. Manage overall Group performance (estimating, safety, quality, project execution to contract, and customer satisfaction). Coordinate site specific project management and project reviews.
- Plan and lead efforts in meeting utilization goals.
- Consistent with Regional business plan, develop work from existing customers and engage as a key participant in business and proposal development efforts to attract new customers.
- Provide and support in-house technical and engineering services.
- Serve as the technical advisor; provide senior-level input and evaluation of designated projects.
- Consistent with the Regional Goals, identifies and establishes productive, professional relationships with key contacts at a strategic level within strategic client and business partner organizations;
- Coordinates the involvement of company personnel, including support, service, and resources, in order to meet defined account performance objectives and customers’ expectations.
- Ensure corporate and regional safety, quality and project management processes are implemented and established policies and standards are maintained.
- Report project status and performance data as required to management and stakeholders.
- Oversee recruitment and training of new staff.
At a given time will be involved in a combination of managing work and participating in business development activities.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related profession preferred
- 10 years of relevant engineering design experience required.
- Significant experience in managing a technical and engineering group. Including budget accountability, required.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and communications skills required.
- Thorough understanding of utility industry engineering practices, operations, contract administration, contract management, and standards required.
- Ability to travel required.
- Coaching skills sufficient to develop technical staff required.
