The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. HJF is seeking a Research Assistant II to supports DoD and NIH-funded projects to understand Enterococcus faecalis biofilm formation and to develop therapeutics for biofilm infections in Dr. Kristi Frank’s laboratory at Uniformed Services University in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in Bethesda, MD. Performs research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Performs limited analysis and interpretation of results.
Responsibilities
- Performs research projects, including the collection and organization of data. Follows instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Performs data entry in accurate, timely, and efficient manner. Maintains clear and accurate data collection records and inventories in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
- Maintains supplies in the laboratory and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
Creates, collects, disseminates, and maintains appropriate study data.
Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Creates and communicates detailed observations on experiments. - May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of aseptic technique, culturing of bacteria, complex laboratory procedures, use of spreadsheets and graphing software to analyze data.
- Ability to meet deadlines of projects.
- Good communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree Minimum of 3-5 years experience required. Master's degree preferred.
