A skilled-level position to provide chemical and instrumental analytical laboratory support for forest product division activities including new product development, R&D, commercial, manufacturing and technical service. This includes analytical methods development, maintenance and operation of analytical instrumentation, accurate recording and timely reporting of results. Position is essential to effective and timely commercialization of key products, and to provide ancillary support for both North America and globally.

• Prepare and test physical and chemical characteristics of adhesives, resins and other polymers including analytical methods such as gel permeation chromatography and thermal analysis, as well as wet chemical analyses.
• Duties will also include interpreting of polymer analysis methods- examples include gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and thermal analysis using instruments such as DMA and DSC.
• Work will include scale up and manufacturing support of various formulations.
• Prepare application testing examples include plywood, laminated veneer lumber, paper saturation and coatings. Test physical properties of various composites and coatings.
• Prepare and conduct physical property tests on laboratory-scale various types of composites.
• Assist Technical Service, Sales, and Production with field trials of new products, as well as specific customer projects including resin synthesis, sample preparation testing and other customer service activities.
• Prepare laboratory reports and customer correspondence regarding studies performed, describing methods and findings.
• Adhere to safety standards and maintain a clean and safe work area
• Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and records.
• Monitor current literature, trends and patent activity on adhesives.
• Establish a good working knowledge of customer base and products for the various business groups.

• A minimum of 2 years relevant experience (Bachelors degree). Other applicable industry experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated excellence in problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels within Hexion and at customer locations.
• Demonstrated experience in collaborating with other technical professionals, preferably in a high-performance, team-oriented environment.
• Highly organized and self- directed and good time management skills
• Strong computer skills with experience in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical programs such as JMP and/or MiniTab.
• Background or experience with design of experiment (DOE's)
