To continue to build our reputation, HGA’s Communications team seeks a motivated, inquisitive, and detail-oriented individual to support our national public relations program. Our charge is to build awareness of HGA’s brand, the impact of our design, and the remarkable work being done by over 900 people across 12 offices with clients in communities nationwide. This position will report to the PR Director and play a key role in the Communications department, working with experts across design disciplines and the marketing department.
This new position will help prepare PR announcements and story content, identify opportunities with clients, cultivate relationships with media contacts and influencers, and build compelling campaigns that earn placements in local and national media. The right candidate will leverage her/his/their interest in learning and developing expertise in the public relations field and apply that skillset to promote HGA’s brand.

Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist the PR Director with campaign management
- Develop PR content about our projects, people, and impact
- Organize timelines, compile and document meeting notes and deliverables
- Draft, edit and proofread press releases, media advisories, key messages and talking points, media pitches and PR-generated social media content
- Write, adapt, and tailor PR content for national media submissions
- Research media outlets, editorial calendars, and topical news angles; be a voracious reader/listener and share ideas and potential opportunities in team brainstorms and other forums

Help improve transparency of PR results through strategic reporting
- Assist PR Director in compiling firmwide presentations
- Track campaign results that inform dashboards and reports that are shared on an on-going basis
- Perform media research and compile media lists, tracking and listening in the Meltwater media database; become a subject matter expert on the tool
- Form relationships with local and national media through proactive outreach; confirm and schedule media interviews
- Curate social media posts highlighting media coverage with proper messaging, imagery, and tagging
- Build relationships to support internal teams and clients as needed/requested; attend select in-person event and networking opportunities
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned
Preferred candidates will have:
- 2 years in a PR, Communications, Marketing, or similar role (may include internships)
- Foundational or introductory knowledge of public relations and communications concepts, practices, and procedures
- Strong professional communications skills: writing, editing, and proofreading
- Motivation and a sense of urgency to meet deadlines, follow up on leads and opportunities, and respond to media requests quickly and precisely
- Thoughtful, effective verbal communication skills
- Strategic thinking and planning: ability to project manage and prioritize multiphase campaigns, tasks, deliverables, and timelines with attention to detail
- Ability to work with minimal supervision; proactive, resourceful, self-motivated hustle
- Dynamic interpersonal skills and business decorum
- Demonstrated flexibility in working in a reactive environment with a variety of team members to meet dynamic project demands
- Willingness to work, meet, and engage in person as the pandemic allows for in-person meetings and events
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams)
- Knowledge of Meltwater or other media database
- Experience with corporate digital publishing and social media channels; fluency with website content publishing and social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
HGA is currently following a flexible work from home policy. As the pandemic shifts, and teams can safely work and meet in person, the firm will shift to a hybrid model encouraging in-person work when possible for the highest level of collaboration and mentorship.
