HCHS is currently seeking a hard-working, passionate, and goal-oriented educator to join our team as a Through College Coordinator College Seminar Teacher for the 202-23 school year.
Job Description
At Hiawatha, we commit to supporting students ‘to and through college.’ This is more than just a catch phrase; for us it’s a shared commitment - advisors, teachers, administrators, and college team members must work together to prepare kids for college, support them in choosing the right college for them, and then persisting once they’re there.
The Through College Coordinator will play a unique role in this process, bridging what happens outside-of-the-classroom in high school with what happens after high school in college and career.
Responsibilities:
Lead College and Career Exploration programming for Scholars
- Plan and coordinate all CCE programming including college trips, visits from college representatives, summer college credit experiences, and all college exploration programming
- Coordinate with MNACC and NACAC to host and/or ensure student attendance at regional college fairs
- Create and execute positive, culturally-relevant scholar-centered CCE programming aligned with Hiawatha Academies' mission and values
- In conjunction with school leaders and the college team, support plans for campus-based family pre-college programming
- Develop a sequence of celebrations to ensure scholars receive appropriate celebrations for effort, growth, and achievement on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis.

Support Alumni Connections and Persistence
- Maintain regular communication with all alumni via email, social media, campus visits, etc. in order to track and support persistence
- Build systems that will connect Hiawatha Academies alumni to one another in order to support connection and persistence
- Reflect the learnings and needs of alumni to the College Team and HCHS to ensure our program is forever strengthening
- Develop a sequence of celebrations to ensure alumni receive appropriate celebrations for effort, growth, and achievement on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis

Develop Partnerships
- Establish and maintain relationships with students and families based in trust and regular communication
- Establish external partnerships that will champion and support our scholars, alumni, and the vision of Hiawatha Academies
- Grow and sustain existing scholarship and leadership programs, such as Summer Scholars
- Manage and develop college partnerships and other partnerships that will support access and success for scholars and alumni

Learning and Development
- Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement
- Build a shared sense of community between alumni and current students and staff through regular communication and development
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and student success; reflect on the success and struggles of current practices to meet individualized professional development goals
- Actively participate in relevant professional development, grade level, and community meetings

Additional Responsibilities
- Support the needs of the College Team and HCHS as is necessary
- Establish and reinforce expectations and accountability structures to maintain a positive, focused school culture
- Serve as a positive force committed to our mission
Teammates must demonstrate knowledge and support of Hiawatha Academies’ mission, vision, values, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
Hiawatha Employment Logistics
Hours are subject to change.
- Hiawatha Collegiate High School students’ school day is from 8:45-3:45 Monday-Thursday and 8:45-2pm on Friday. Staff hours are set to support students.
- Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 2:15-4:00pm.
- All Hiawatha staff are expected to attend and participate in relevant evening family events to be held at the school.

Skills & Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree
- A growth mindset and strong belief that they can help close the opportunity gap for all
- Experience working with students of color or students growing up in low-income households
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with colleagues, students and families
- Awareness of self and the ability to understand, appreciate, and interact within different cultural contexts
- Must be a problem-solver, self directed learner, and must possess the the ability to work independently
- Cultural awareness of self and others
- Optimism in our ability to close the opportunity gap for all students

Highly Preferred:
- A minimum of two years working with diverse student populations
- Demonstrated results
- Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish or Somali preferred)
