General Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Aggregate Operations and the company owners, the Aggregates Area Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company’s gravel pits in a defined geological area. This includes managing all aspects of safety, production, and other support functions with primary responsibility for ensuring effective execution of production performance and growth strategy. Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, and strategically building effective teams. The preferred candidate can lead and motivate within a safe team environment.
Essential Functions
- Cultivates a positive safety culture in assigned operations. Builds individual accountability and rewards/recognition into safety approach.
- Maintains proper material quality and inventory levels of material to meet demand.
- Occasionally may be required to operate various equipment such as loader, dozer, excavator, haul truck, skid steer to run materials thru a wash plant or dry screener.
- Development and adherence to site production schedules, budgets, production, and cost management. Daily, weekly, and monthly reporting and communication to Manager.
- Builds effective teams and develop direct reports for future opportunities.
- Assure adherence to all State, Federal, local regulations including Safety, Environmental, Permitting, and Zoning on site and employee level.
- Ensures and helps perform site and basic equipment maintenance/repairs and housekeeping duties.
- Responsible for keeping company property clean and maintained.
- Ensures company safety rules and regulations are met through periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, personnel activities and working conditions.
- Drives operational and safety performance through continuous improvement initiatives that meet or exceed company and regional goals.
- Develops and nurtures empowerment in all phases of the operation.
- Directs the selection, training, and development of production personnel - appraises performance of subordinates and takes/recommends appropriate personnel actions as necessary.
- Purchases or directs the purchase of supplies and equipment in accordance with company policy- recommends or changes vendors to reduce maintenance costs.
- Implements and reviews ongoing contracts, purchase orders, appropriations, and expenditures requests. Equipment and cost spending coding, analysis, and reporting to Manager.
- Coordinates with Director of Aggregates for needed staffing to operate the plants properly and safely. Coordinates these same needs with the Human Resources Department with attention on labor law compliance.
- Maintains operational security.

Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Employment Requirements/Qualifications
- · Possession of a valid driver license and clean/safe driving record.
- Ability to pass a drug screen as well as a pre-employment physical.
- Hands on experience and knowledge of crushers, screens, pumps, haul trucks and loaders is required.
- Knowledge of office systems, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel; other industry specific computer programs such as JDE and Business Analytics.
- Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- General industrial maintenance/repair knowledge a plus.
- Must have the physical ability to: climb, stoop, bend, squat, twist, frequently lift up to 50 lbs. stretch, drive/sit.
- Adhere to all safety regulations including company policies, State, and Federal regulations.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule with flexible hours, hours vary; overtime work; Saturdays and nights, may be required.
- Sales, Inventory and Operational Planning (SI&OP) process familiarity a plus.
- Strong organizational and budgeting skills with attention to detail.
- Willingness to prepare for future growth potential within plant and company.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate positive working relationships with all levels of management and staff, customers and vendors.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills, as well as the development of formal presentations.

Working Conditions
- Traveling between locations is a must; traveling will consume approximately 50% of the time. Works in an office setting 10% of the time, the other 40% will be spent outside working in a gravel pit exposed to various weather conditions ranging from extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, ice and wind
- Exposure to all types of terrain ranging from uneven, slippery, and soft ground

- Hourly wage based on experience
