JOB POSITION TITLE: Head of Security
REPORTS TO: General Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, non-exempt

The Security Team at Higher Ground plays a singularly important role in the whole guest experience. It is their job to keep safe the venue, guests, performers, and each other. And because they are often the first and last point of contact, the safety of everyone must be balanced with superior customer service.
It is with this ideology that Security not only upholds company policy and keeps everyone safe, but also helps to create amazing, memorable, and meaningful moments for everyone.
This requires a very unique, diverse, and engaged group of individuals, who, in turn, need the right balance of care to help support their efforts.
Higher Ground is now hiring for a Head of Security
The Head of Security is responsible for the Security Team, with a focus on safety for guests, employees, and artists. This is achieved through training, monitoring, coaching, and leading by example.
Essential Functions:
- Work with the GM/AGM to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures that relate to the security department as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Act as security lead, monitoring and working alongside security staff during events.
- Provide guidance, work towards improvement, and implement necessary adjustments.
- Lead by example.
- Investigate and resolve security complaints.
- Interact positively with guests. When potential conflicts arise, use de-escalation tactics to affect the best possible outcome.
- Circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property.
- Complete write-ups of daily activities and irregularities such as equipment or property damage, the presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
- Coordinate with staff, tours, and management at the end of the show to close the venue.
- Help to organize and conduct meetings and/or distribute pertinent information to staff.
- Schedule and direct staff in their work assignments.
- Aids in the regular review and evaluation of the department, and recommends and implements new operational policies and procedures when necessary.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in a security role, preferably with a working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a business environment, and enforcement procedures.
- Knowledge of Vermont DLL rules and guidelines.
- People management experience is a must.
- Strong strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Acute sense of judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
- A strong sense of teamwork and the ability to execute programs.
- Must love live music.
