DEMENTIA SPECIALIST/DEMENTIA
CARE COORDINATOR
We
are looking for the right person to oversee the care and services provided to
our assisted living and memory care residents.
This includes interacting with our residents, their families and medical
providers, and our caregivers and medication assistants. Highgate Senior Living's mission is to devote
ourselves to help each resident live a life of purpose and each of us plays a
crucial role in doing so. We operate communities in the western US and are seeking
the right Dementia Specialist/Dementia Care Coordinator to join our team. For this full-time leadership position, we
are seeking a caring, detail-oriented individual to support our ongoing efforts
in creating an environment that promotes a sense of well-being and the feeling
of true community for our residents in our gracious, homelike setting.
The
successful candidate will be an organized and thoughtful individual with a
positive and self-motivated attitude. You must have strong communication and
critical thinking abilities. Excellent time management skills are important
along with relationship building, persistence, flexibility, and
adaptability. Caring for those impacted by the various forms of dementia
is both an art and a science. The best
candidates will have a deep understanding of what this means. The best
candidates will be committed to ongoing, consistent education and innovation to
equip our team members with the most current tools available as we care for our
residents with memory loss.
SKILLS NEEDED:
- Able to create partnership
relationships with the residents, their families, and our clinical and care
teams
- Excellent customer service skills
to respond to resident, family, team member and medical provider requests
and concerns
- Ability to use independent
observational skills to help determine resident needs and preferences
- Dementia related caregiving skills
for very early stage to very late-stage dementia diagnoses
- Calm, levelheaded demeanor to provide
coaching, training, feedback, and motivation to our caregivers
- Excellent verbal and written
communication that is factual, based on observation and not subjective
- Able to provide leadership that
inspires others
- A capability to communicate a
vision and simultaneously manage the implementation of the vision
- A refined listening and
observational skill set to help understand the unique dynamics that sometimes
exist between an elder adult and the adult child
- Skilled in finding creative
solutions to problems or perceived obstacles
- Office and computer skills including
MS Office suite
- Ability to learn software that is
necessary for the role
- A heart for service and
compassion for elder adults
RELATABLE
EXPERIENCE:
- Experiences working with seniors to
help them maintain their individualism and independence as they age and
experience change
- Prior opportunities where you have
been able to increase your knowledge of the various dementias and how these
dementias affect an older adult and the people they love
- Experiences working in other healthcare
settings and with vulnerable populations
- Past roles that require building
an effective team focused on customer service
- Prior experiences in helping others
grow a career in a field they are passionate about
- Past roles that included leading
a team through vision and values
- Jobs that have included scheduling,
hiring, training and professional development
- Professional experiences that
taught you the importance of follow through and problem solving to reach
resolution
QUALIFICATIONS:
1)
At
least 21 years of age
2)
Current
negative TB test
3)
Current
or obtain CPR certification
4)
Be
able to provide hands on care to residents as needed
5)
Combination
of education and experience in dealing with the various forms of dementia
6)
Credentialed
or the ability to become credentialed in caregiving as required by state licensing
7)
Ability
to pass criminal record/background check
8)
Ability
to pass a driver abstract and hold a current driver license
9)
Be
efficient and exercise good time management skills
10)
Self-starter
with a focus on attention to detail
11)
An
understanding through education/experience (formal or informal) of the unique,
holistic set of challenges an older adult deals with as he/she ages
12)
Excellent
verbal and written communication skills
As
an organization we offer our team members a good benefits package, the ability

this role based on the credentialing, tenure and skill sets each candidate
brings for consideration. The annual salary
wage range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000 per year. Prior experience
in caring for seniors or other specialty population groups is preferred. A passion for your work and a commitment to
