Job Title: Cheese Maker/Production Worker
Immediate Supervisor: Production Manager, Assistant Plant Manager
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Summary: The Cheese Maker is responsible for all the procedures of cheese making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Responsible for planning and coordinating to achieve daily cheese make schedule.
- Assign employees as needed.
- Ensure all employees are doing the jobs they are assigned according to all procedures.
- Keep accurate records, run accurate tests, take accurate samples.
- Inspect all equipment to assure proper operation and safety.
- Assist in all quality audits as needed.
- Follows specific cheese make recipe and time constrains to achieve maximum cheese yields and consistent product.
- Ensure GMP’s, Quality Control, Safety, and Sanitation Procedures are followed including all documentation is properly filled out.
- Communicate with Cheese Makers, Assistant Cheese Makers and Process & Clean Up Lead and Process & Clean Up Assistant as needed to insure all tasks are completed.
- Review lab results to determine adjustments to make procedures.
- Ensure Chemical inventories are maintained.
- Must be able to operate and understand all pasteurizing equipment.
- Must be able to operate all CIP systems correctly.
- Need to attend weekly quality meeting.
- Assist in any other areas of the manufacturing plant when necessary.
- Must attend all job related classes or seminars that are company supplied.
Qualification/Requirements:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred but will provide training.
- Must be able to read, interpret and understand written and oral directions.
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies.
- Must demonstrate basic math skills to calculate production yields, and understand weights and measures.
- Must be able to work flexible hours and weekends.
- Must be able to verbally communicate, understand, and write in the English language.
- Previous Cheese Making experience preferred; along with pasteurization certificate.
- Must be able to pass a approved First Aid Course
- Must be able to perform basic computer tasks.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms on a repetitive basis. The employee must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push/pull exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Requires visual acuity to review written documentations; ability to hear and understand speech. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. There is exposure to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to heat/cold temperature changes.
