What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal position at HMSHost?
Purpose: The Paralegal is responsible for providing legal support within the Legal department and administering processes to assist with improving the efficiency of the department by performing a variety of paraprofessional duties. This position assists with legal and compliance matters and may combine generalist and paraprofessional legal knowledge.
Essential Functions:
• Provides legal support in one or more of the following specialties: real estate, corporate, intellectual property, litigation, and employment law
• Maintains various legal documents
• Coordinates interdepartmental information and document gathering for various legal matters
• Maintains and leads coordination for one or more enterprise legal management systems within the department
• Composes correspondence and documents for review by attorney
• Conducts a wide variety of legal and compliance research as requested by in-house clients and attorneys
• Works independently with in-house clients and attorneys in legal department under general supervision of an attorney
• Resolves routine legal matters in area of responsibility with minimal supervision
• Assists with due diligence as needed for corporate transactions
• Works on projects as assigned and takes initiative as needed
Reporting Relationship: The Paralegal reports into the Assistant General Counsel
Location: Requires regular/hybrid attendance at F&B Center of Excellence in Bethesda
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
Education and Experience:
- The combination of education and professional experience must exceed 3 years:
- In a technical role: Requires 3 years of experience as a legal assistant
- A paralegal certificate from an ABA approved program can count for 1 of the 3-year requirement
- In the industry: 3 years of Hospitality, F&B and/or Retail experience
Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits
- Extensive knowledge and experience with enterprise legal management software programs such as Legal Tracker, Agiloft, or CSC Matter Management
- In-depth understanding of legal terminology
- Exercise of professional judgment and discretion
- Business acumen and also has the mindset required to understand the long-term implications of legal planning and to advance the organizations goals
- Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population and individual circumstances
