Overview
PURPOSE
The Crane Operator operates and maintains various pieces of equipment within the plant premises. Responsibilities include operating the various types of equipment safely and productively. Equipment may include Grove Mobile Crane, Krupp Mobile Crane 110-ton capacity and mobile hydraulic cranes up to a 65-ton capacity. Additionally, the Crane Operator will operate various other Rig-Up Yard equipment such as forklifts, teleforker, front end loader and should be able to operate trucks such as a tandem or haul truck.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be aware of certification/recertification milestones and be proactive in maintaining valid certifications.
- Assist with completing critical lift plans.
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner and maintain the equipment according to OEM specifications.
- Be familiar with operating manuals of all equipment on the job site.
- Ensure the work for the next day is understood and that the equipment is fueled, maintained, cleaned and staged for the next day.
- Partner with fellow employees on job planning, scope of work and job tasks daily.
- Report any damage of equipment immediately and participate in the investigation to determine how to prevent future incidents.
- Ensure that daily inspections of the equipment are being performed and documented.
- Participate in job-planning activities, Job Safety Assessment (JSA) and work-site and/or operational hazard recognition.
- Shows commitment to safety culture through personal behavior and willingness to influence others.
- Responsible for self and riggers compliance with company policies, safety guidelines and procedures that pertain to operating a crane and other pieces of equipment.
- Assures that all lifts are within load limits of equipment and correctly rigged.
- All other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Ability to work safe and keep others safe while performing job tasks and operating equipment
- Create an environment fostering open communications concerning safety issues.
- Ability to provide direction and leadership personnel working with or around job-site area.
- Knowledge of cranes, trucks and forklifts and ability to safely operate them in an efficient manner.
- Ability to train and mentor other personnel on Company standards and general procedures involving equipment inspections, best practices
- Lift and carry 50 pounds independently while walking on uneven surfaces
- Effectively navigate Rig-Up Yard work sites with occasional walking, climbing, standing, stepping, etc.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl occasionally during the days job activities
- Limited to moderate use a variety of hand and power tools to demonstrate a range of mechanically oriented functions including independent use of heavy-duty handheld and long-handled tools.
- Listen for unusual noises that signify equipment and machinery problems.
- Accurately recall information over short and long-term memory.
- Maintain spatial orientation and awareness to safely move around work environment with many moving objects and personnel.
- Stay alert and remain focused even during occasional extended work periods.
- Demonstrate clear communication skills and ability to promptly give, and follow directions
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times.
- Ability to work efficiently, handling multiple tasks and following through on each assigned task.
- Ability to successfully complete the established training courses that are required.
- Ability to understand crane rigging and hand signals.
- Ability to understand and develop lift plans, participate in or lead safety meetings.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED
Additional Qualifications: Current Level 1 NCCCO Rigger certified
Preferred Qualifications: Current Level 2 NCCCO Rigger certified
Required Work Experience: 1 year experience as a Crane Operator
