What are the responsibilities and job description for the Probationary Laborer position at HollyFrontier Corporation?
Basic Function
Under close and frequent supervision, performs work within the Laborer classification. This position may be assigned out to other departments as needed in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and with proper training and testing for any position assigned to perform. May be assigned to departments that work 24/7 shift rotations.
Job Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
- Perform work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures of the job
- Show commitment to learning the job tasks in all areas of the facility
- Work with a strong attention to quality standards
- Follow the rules and regulations for the assigned department and the plant
- Communicate openly and honestly with the supervisors and trainers
- Report possible and/or actual safety hazards
- Operate forklifts and aerial lifts both indoors and outdoors
- Transport and deliver materials, packages, samples, etc as required throughout the plant
- Perform general housekeeping duties throughout the plant included but not limited to cleaning, painting, rearranging, landscaping, snow removal, etc.
- Assist employees in maintenance department in the completion of their duties by performing minor helping tasks for which they are trained to perform.
- Assist with calibration of equipment as necessary
- Maintain a clean work environment throughout the facility
- Responsible for learning the jobs, showing initiative, remaining productive and engaged
- Train and mentor new employees and new transfers into the department on job tasks
- Generate, handle, and/or otherwise manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste
- Carries out assignments with other departments as applicable. If temporarily assigned to another department in accordance with the CBA, employee will perform the tasks of that position once properly trained to do so.
- Perform confined space, supplied air cascade bottle attendant, and hot work duties for plant employees and contractors as needed
- Complete general maintenance tasks with the use of small hand tools
Experience
No experience necessary
Preferred Experience: Prior experience in a chemical facility working in an operations role is highly preferred. Prior experience working in any manufacturing or industrial facility is also preferred.
Education Level
High School Diploma/GED
Preferred Education Level: Education post high school including technical or science based college degrees, courses taken at a college/university, specialty crafts school, technology programs, military training, etc.
Required Skills
Basic knowledge of commonly used math, spelling and writing. Basic ability to learn and understand maintenance, production and manufacturing concepts. Ability to learn complex work requirements within a chemical facility. Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to perform common calculations and measurements. Basic computer abilities in order to communicate by email and locate necessary files for the job.

Work Conditions
Industrial/Chemicals/Plant based manufacturing environment Subject to varying road and weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures including out-of-doors. Works near moving mechanical parts and/or rotating equipment and sometimes at heights.
Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted. Required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted in many production and maintenance positions), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential. Must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination.
