Position Summary
The Wordpress Developer position will lead the building and maintenance of WordPress sites. This position will be responsible for implementing new features and functionality, enhancing user experience, optimizing websites, managing and creating plugins, and performing routine updates and maintenance. This position requires a background in WordPress web development with experience in common web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, Javascript/jQuery, PHP, as well as an understanding of SEO best practices and ADA compliance.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Build websites that are fast, secure, accessible, and innovative on the WordPress platform.
- Create well-structured WordPress custom themes and plugins to support site functionality and integrations
- Perform regular maintenance tasks including theme updates, plugin updates and security updates
- Design and implement new features and functionality as needed
- Communicate effectively with Digital Marketing and Information Technology teams to provide status updates and direction on WordPress sites.
- Work across the organization with various internal stakeholders to develop new features and upgrade/refactor existing solutions as needed.
- Troubleshoot content issues.
- Research, suggest and implement development best practices.
- Optimize websites for mobile users.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Extensive experience building front and back-end WordPress websites with strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and SQL.
- Competence with version control in Git.
- Background with creation of plugins/widgets written to conform to the WordPress coding standards.
- Ability to create clean, logical, well-documented and re-usable code.
Required Skills
- Expertise with WordPress and PHP
- A deep understanding of the modern web: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience with Git and Git workflows
- Familiarity with APIs and integrating third-party APIs
- A comprehension of accessibility standards
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to innovate and experiment with new ways to drive engagement and support campus-wide strategic initiatives.
- Experience working in an Agile environment and with bug tracking systems a plus
