What are the responsibilities and job description for the Visual Art Faculty Member position at Holyoke Community College?
The Visual Art Department at Holyoke Community College seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member to bring vision and innovation to our 2D foundation courses and to help advance the college’s efforts to ensure equitable outcomes for all HCC students. Candidates should bring a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in their teaching practice. In addition to providing instruction in 2D design, painting, and drawing for majors and non-majors, this faculty member will participate in department initiatives to better prepare art students for transfer and careers and have an interest in actively engaging with the communities HCC serves. Candidates for this position should demonstrate a record of excellence in college-level teaching as well as interest in working collaboratively with colleagues, transfer institutions, and community organizations. The successful candidate will be expected to build and reinforce connections to the Pioneer Valley’s vibrant arts community.
- Teaching studio courses in 2D foundations and painting;
- Overseeing and revising our 2D foundations curriculum;
- Working with Visual Art Technician to maintain 2D studio spaces and equipment;
- Academic advising of majors;
- Participating in department initiatives related to community engagement;
- Working with the department to maintain transfer and articulation agreements;
- Working with the department on recruitment, retention, and student success efforts;
- Provide college service as required by the MCCC contract.
- MFA in a visual medium;
- Minimum two (2) years of college teaching experience;
- Exhibition record and evidence of ongoing professional creative practice;
- Expertise in 2D art practices, theory, and a variety of media;
- Experience working successfully with a diverse student body;
- Experience with culturally responsive pedagogies;
- Active engagement with current issues in art and art instruction;
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
NOTE: A teaching demonstration will be a required part of the interview process.
PREFERRED:
- MFA in a 2D visual medium;
- Teaching experience beyond graduate assistant teaching.

Full-time, tenure-track MCCC/MTA position
Salary: Minimum $56,000 - $70,000. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
