What are the responsibilities and job description for the UX/UI Designer position at HOMER?
codeSpark has a newly created opportunity for a UX/UI Designer to join our growing team! This role will report in a hybrid capacity to our office in Pasadena, CA.

We offer personalized, fun, and proven learning products for kids ages 2-8 to help build confidence, mastery, and a love of learning. codeSpark is part of the HOMER program, teaching kids ages 6-10 skills for the 21st century like critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative learning through coding.
Collaborating with the Growth Product Manager, Developers, and the Product Design Team, you will create high performing web experiences for codeSpark. The ideal candidate has experience designing across platforms for both web and app (web design experience is a must). You are an advocate of user-centered design, balancing qualitative and quantitative data in order to design the best experiences possible.
Responsibilities
- Define and experiment with the optimal user experience and relevant interactions, as you evolve the user interface of codeSpark products
- Explore and document user flows, optimal information architecture through the ongoing development of sketches, wireframes, and the evolution of the brand’s visual design
- Design user-centric web experiences geared to optimize conversion
- Build functional prototypes through Figma (or equivalent) to validate and test various designs being intentional about the hypothesis and the variables
- Rapidly create user experience artifacts including functional specs, user flows, wireframes, sitemaps, prototypes, and low-fidelity sketches
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering stakeholders to translate business goals into unique design experiences
- Partner with product managers to hypothesize, test, and measure customer growth and success of your projects
- Participate and contribute in brainstorming sessions, analyze results and fold into design decisions
- Iterate on design solutions based on feedback, research and test results.
- Participate in design reviews and critiques to receive iterate on feedback
- Collaborate with fellow designers to develop and communicate underlying concepts that inspire intuitive solutions for both the user and the business
- Help maintain visual and brand consistency between web mobile products and all marketing materials
- Collaborate with the Engineering team to ensure product designs are executed to spec and help resolve any implementation issues that may arise
- Maintain and promote the evolution of codeSpark’s style guide, ensuring that all work adheres to brand guidelines
- Keep a pulse on exciting digital campaigns, social trends, and industry technology in order to promote new ways of thinking, working, and problem-solving
- Conceptualize intuitive user experiences across platforms and devices by considering market context, industry and competitor trends, customer feedback, site metrics, and usability.
- Build a design system for codeSpark’s website for easy repetition of elements, faster velocity, and cohesion across the site
- Work with design leadership to establish best practices and processes for a product design function.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 yrs of professional experience as a product designer in a consumer product company, particularly e-commerce
- A standout creative portfolio that demonstrates high quality UX & UI work with proven results
- A skilled storyteller, with experience working in a multidisciplinary environment to develop engaging concepts that also deliver business results
- Ability to discuss and present your design methodologies, including examples of how you validated your design approach from sketches/wireframes through to implemented designs
- Ability to estimate the time and effort of your work, in order to participate in product planning
- A clean and strong design sense that values usability, simplicity and consistency
- Experience in developing, contributing or working within a UI design system
- Experience in working in/contributing to a high-performance culture
- Experience in the following tools / programs: Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite
- Experienced prototyping skills (Invision, Figma, Proto.io)
- A solid knowledge of typography, color, grid and composition
- Driven to make design decisions informed by research and data
- Must be flexible, deadline-driven, and able to deliver designs with accuracy and confidence
- In-depth understanding of the principles of experience design and best practices across platforms
- Enthusiasm for solving problems in unique and innovative ways
- A passion for advocating for the user & creating elegant, user-friendly designs
- This position can be remote and will require excellent time management ability to communicate through video calls and Slack

Nice to have:
- A/B Testing experience
- Experience in working with products targeting parents
- Experience in the subscription space or designing children’s media / product or games
- Experience in designing purchase flows and conversion funnels
- A basic understanding of HTML, CSS and Javascript
- Experience with user research through interviews, moderated usability tests, and focus groups or other research methodologies
- Demonstrate the ability to design for different audiences within and across multiple products under one brand.
- A bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, UI Design, or a related field
