The position:
This is a Monday/Wednesday 830am to ~5pm position with opportunity for additional coverage. This schedule can fluctuate based on the needs of coverage. We are mobile and there is one assistant/tech with each DVM in our vehicles. You would meet at either Elkridge address or Towson address to start the routes. Ideally, you would be able to cover either unit if needed. Possible opportunity for surgical assisting so that experience is a plus, but not required.

Veterinary Technician Job Description - Mobile
Reports to: Doctor on mobile unit or Practice Manager.
Overall Responsibility: To assist the doctors with their appointments for both annual well visits, sick visits and other procedures/activities performed or requested by the doctor. The technician must be able to work with cats, dogs, and occasional exotics.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the mobile technician include, but are not limited to the following activities:
Technical skills/activities-
- Assisting doctors in the client’s home and driving the mobile unit as necessary
- Vaccine preparation
- Restraint for lab work and treatments
- Expressing anal glands and perform nail trims
- Sending out lab work
- Learning the PMS (EzyVet) including input of charges and medical record keeping
- Client communication and basic client education
- Stocking and cleaning the vans
- Knowledge of common medications, filling medications as prescribed
- Ability to administer subcutaneous fluids and injections
- Ability to perform recovery procedures for post surgical/anesthetized patients.
- Obtaining vitals, blood pressure, ECG, and other monitoring parameters
- Phlebotomy
- Basic knowledge of anesthetic drugs, protocols, and anesthesia monitoring
- Ability to place intravenous catheters
- The technician should be familiar and comfortable with handling and nursing care of exotics including SQ/IM/IV injections.
- Perform in-house diagnostics such as ear cytology and 4DX snaps
Medical Recording-
- Be well versed in practice software, medical record charting, surgical monitoring charts, dental charts, hospitalized patient charts and keep very thorough and professional notes in each.
- Be able to record the Subjective of the SOAP such as chief complaint, recent history, TPRW’s, medical history, all medications given or dispensed and complete discharge/homecare/report card instructions.
- Thoroughly record conversations with clients including all recommendations, declined recommendations or treatments.

Educational Requirements: 3 years veterinary assistant/technician experience preferred –technician degree a plus.
Physical Requirements: This job is physically active and requires frequent driving, bending and standing, stooping for long periods of time. It requires routine lifting and restraining animals. You must be able to lift up to 40 lbs unassisted.
Environmental working conditions:
Noise exposure from barking dogs and machinery.
Danger of being bitten or scratched.
Exposure to various risks including but not limited to; toxoplasmosis, leptospirosis, gas anesthesia, drugs and chemicals under OSHA, rabies and euthanasia drugs as well as compassion fatigue.
