PMT's Advanced Materials businesses manufacture a wide variety of high performance products, including fluorocarbons, hydrofluoroolefins, caprolactam, resins, ammonium sulfate fertilizer, phenol, specialty films, waxes, additives, advanced fibers, customboized research chemicals and intermediates, and electronic materials and chemicals.
The Senior Electronics Engineer will be responsible for electronic design, layout and testing of optoelectronic sensors for Authentication Technologies programs for the Fine Chemicals business. Position will be located in Ft Washington, PA.
Authentication Technologies (AT) is part of the Fine Chemicals business unit and is a leader in the development of Authentication solutions for banknotes, coins, high value documents and materials packaging.
This is an opportunity for an engineer to lead the electronics design of optoelectronic sensor products. This includes high reliability designs that need to operate in difficult environments. The designs are mixtures of low noise analog circuits coupled to digital interfaces and laser optical source drivers. Work includes low EMI and EMC designs and layouts. Significant hands-on efforts are required with good data capture abilities. Many of the sensors are incorporated into customer machines, so the ability to resolve specification issues is important.
This engineer will be expected work on a team to develop new concepts, develop intellectual property, support new project proposals, assess competitive technologies and products, and develop new technologies for future products. This will include understanding customer requirements, translating those into device and product requirements, performing trade studies, writing research and development proposals, project cost estimating, budgeting, and program management. The engineer must be technically creative, have strong organizational and communication skills, and able to work in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Leads electrical design efforts in a highly-dynamic team environment with strong customer focus
- Develop electrical systems (circuit modeling and layout) using the Mentor Graphics tool, and ability to work on analog to digital interfaces
- Work closely with optical, mechanical, and software engineers to develop robust, high-quality sensor solutions
- Responsible for delivery of one-off prototypes to support business efforts
- Leading electronics through maturation from concept development to engineering to production
- Works closely with technical teams at key customers - important to be able to develop trusting relationships with customers
- Develops a clear understanding of customer technical requirements, and is able to translate into plans to address, and involving multiple sites and external partners
- Generate new ideas and help drive technology development project pipeline
- Use Six Sigma tools to deliver customer-focused products that are expected to have 10 year life
- Design of experiments and create test matrices to verify designs
- Significant hands on building, testing, and trouble-shooting required
- Travel required, including international (< 20%)
- Laboratory work, board design, layout, system testing, diagnostics, troubleshooting
- Data analysis, writing reports
- Administrative, health/safety
- Must be eligible for a US security clearance. Strong preference given to individuals who already have a DoD clearance*
YOU MUST HAVE
- B.S. degree Electrical or Electronics Engineer
- 2 years of hands-on Experience in analog circuit design with coupling to digital interfaces
- 2 years of Experience with Mentor Graphics or OrCAD or similar software package
WE VALUE
- M.S. degree in electronics Engineering
- Significant industrial product development and R&D experience with proven track record
- Experience in capturing Schematics, PCB layout, component library, & Routing of multi-layer, high density PCB using CAD tools
- Experience in writing firmware/software, microcontroller and hardware or software based ethernet networking
- Familiarity with Optoelectronics products.
- Familiarity with techniques for EMC/EMI compliance and protection of electronic equipment
- Experience in thin-film electronics, RFID and NFC, and/or digital authentication technologies
- Experience with LeCroy test gear or digital test equipment
- Experience in anti-counterfeiting applications such as currency, high-value documents, and brand protection is preferred
- Knowledge and Experience in developing intellectual property including patents and assessments
- Strong communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
- Six Sigma Training (Green or Black belt)
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
