Monitor Technician

JOB SUMMARY

AtHouston Methodist the Monitor Technician position is responsiblefor performing accurate EKG rhythm interpretation and other inelectrocardiography functions that support the interprofessionalhealthcare team in delivering high quality costeffective care.

Thisposition maintains competency in electrocardiography (EKG)monitoring / computer skills and pulse oximetry (SpO2) asappropriate.

The Monitor Technician position employs effectiveprompt communication throughout the hospital complex and providesdirect patient care by performing patient preparation formonitoring

QUALITY / SAFETY35%

• Accurately demonstrates EKG rhythminterpretation. As appropriate monitors O2 sats understandingparameters when to call a nurse. (EF)
• Promotesquality patient care by vigilant identification of changes orabnormalities in EKG morphology. Takes corrective action orcommunicates immediately when appropriate to proper personnel.(EF)
• Provides and accurately processesdocuments quality data and related centralized telemetry monitor(CTM) records. (EF)
• Ensures all patient careequipment has had QC performed as required is in safe working orderprior to use and documents findings accordingly.

Reports anymalfunctions to management and regularly practices preventivemaintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.(EF)

Reports near misses and inputs errorspromptly into TAPS to improve processes and identify trends.Contributes to identification of corrective action and improvementactivities and contributes to meeting department and hospitaltargets for quality and safety.(EF)

Utilizes resources with costeffectiveness and value creation in mind. Selfmotivated toindependently manage time effectively minimizing incidentalovertime and prioritize daily tasks assisting coworkers as needed.(EF)

EDUCATIONREQUIREMENTS

o High School diploma or equivalenteducation (examples include : GED verification of homeschoolequivalency partial or full completion of postsecondary educationetc.)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

oEKG interpretation skills

o Prior healthcareand / or medical terminology experiencepreferred

CERTIFICATIONSLICENSES AND REGISTRATIONSREQUIRED

o One of the following EKGMonitoring Certifications : Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT)Certified EKG Technician (CET) CMTBC Nationally RegisteredCertified EKG Technician (NRCEKG) ECGBC Board Certification (ECGBC)or NTT through the National Telemetry Association within one yearof hire / transfer

o American Heart AssociationBasic Life Support (BLS)

KNOWLEDGESKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

oDemonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safelyperform the assigned job determined through ongoing skillscompetency assessments and performanceevaluations

o Sufficient proficiency in speakingreading and writing the English language necessary to perform theessential functions of this job especially with regard toactivities impacting patient or employee safety orsecurity

o Ability to effectively communicatewith patients physicians family members and coworkers in a mannerconsistent with a customer service focus and application ofpositive language principles

o Exhibits stronginterpersonal and team player skills with all levels of thehealthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer serviceto all patients visitors physicians andcoworkers

o Successful completion of validatedBasic EKG proficiency exam with a score of 80% and correctidentification of lethal dysrhythmias during initial and ongoingorientation

o Maintains competency in pulseoximetry (SpO2) as appropriate

o Demonstratesproficiency in the use and maintenance of equipment such as RemoteViewing Station (RVS) transmitters monitoring equipment computersfacsimile Sickbay EPIC and printer
